Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Clutch hydraulics test?

I've started to have harder shifting in my '01 6spd with 120K miles. I've got a low mile SBC Con OFE and as fas as I know stock hydraulics. The transmission has had Amsoil in it since I got it (109K), but I'm not sure at all what it had before... . It was full though.

What is the procedure for testing the clutch hydraulics? How much travel should the slave cylinder have under load? Can you measure without removing the slave cylinder? If not, how do you load it when it's removed?

Has anyone had a similar problem that they fixed by installing new or upgraded hydraulics?

I had a similar thing with my 2000. It got harder and harder to not grind the gears until finally it wouldn't disengage. It turned out to be the clutch master cylinder was leaking back past it's seals and not actuating the slave cylinder.

Sounds a lot like mine. I'm needing to pump the clutch pedal a few times every so often to get it to release fully. I see no leakage any where but I've had to put fluid in it.

put the truck in gear, with nothing in front of you, and hold the clutch in, if one of the cylinders, master or slave is leaking, you will soon know it as the clutch will start to engage. slave is cheapest, but mine was the master, replaced both.

mine is doing the same thing sometimes it will release and sometimes it wont, i am going to upgrade mine to the south bend setup heard lots of goodthings about it.
