What effect will Calif new law have on 2006 5. 9 Cummings Dodge pickups? Will soot filters etc have to be installed?

No emission set yet for California other than most likely 2010. Still up in the air at what weight they will require trucks to be smogged. Whatever emissions were part of the truck year built is all that is reqiured. So your 2006 just has a cat on it. No worreies of having to put a DPF or such on it for emissions. That would be a nightmare (fitting a truck that is not programmed or design for).

I did hear though watching the news yesterday I believe. If Obama has his way, the EPA wants all OTR trucks to have DPF retrofits no matter what the year is on that model truck.

It's going to be more toward commercial, fleets, and old stuff. One off's and classics should not be an issue..... But I'm sure the state is still ironing it out, as it is supposed to take effect in 2011. I think they are trying to tie it into the greenhouse emissions bill's.

Quoted from the California Air Resources Board

" The regulation applies to trucks that weigh more than 14,000 pounds, or those that are larger than a Ford F350 or GM 3500. "

So unless you have a Dodge 4500 or 5500 Cab Chassis your in the clear. I know a few guys with F450 powerchokes that are bummed.

That can change at any given time until the smog testing begins and set in stone. Even then they can amended and change it at will to meet 8,500lbs curb weight to have 3/4 ton trucks to test. Then set what years will be except.

When are you guys gonna' give up on the Socialist Republic of California? There are other places in the US where the weather is good most of the year, doesn't flood twice a year, and doesn't burn down the other two times a year!:-{}

Give up on California? Why would we do that when there is so much entertainment here! Where else would a state implement draconian measures to reduce 'green house' gases in the face of a major recession? And our gutless State lawmakers did it by setting a goal but turning the measures to reach that goal over to an un-elected board, the Calif Air Resources Board (C. A. R. B. ). Assembly Bill 32 has just been activated, watch the impact on all energy costs, all new construction, and a huge burden on every business in California. They should be successful in pushing the unemployment from the current 8% to 15+% next year. Once all those people stop working, green house gas production should go down!

Me too! I'm trying to buy a home now for the move away from the Socialist Republic of California in about 5 years or as long as our jobs last and then it on to Las Vegas NV. But that is Dingy Harry's district so its a matter of time any way, besides after Obama and Congress gets done with the Green laws, will it really matter where we live? I hope They dont require us to submit our ECM records, don't be surprized if they do and the fines that follow it. :mad:

I'm a Ca native and have never experienced bugs,excessive humidity,rain,heat or cold for extended periods. San Diego has by definition the best climate in the US. I'm five miles from the Pacific Ocean,fifteen from Mexico,an hour from the desert and forty-five minutes from 6,000' mountains. For me it works. I would love to see Tenn. and the East coast in Indian Summer though. It's certainly not as nice as it was when I was a kid,but how many places are? Oh yeah,I'm 1. 5 hrs. from Carli too!:-laf

On our trucks I agree nothing will happen, fleets are the target of the laws. I sort of imagine more trucking and logging companys relocating to oregon and nevada (as will the chicken and livestock ranchers due to the pen size blunder).

Regrding the state of california (at least farnor*cal goes): let's see, no bi-annual smogs, no smogging 25 yr old vehicles, prop 13 tax cap, no stop-lights, beautiful coast 2 hours and mountians and wilderness all around. 1 hour drive to the biggest town around here (Redding) what's not to like? We just wave to the tightwads moving to oregon and say c-u! :)

Sorry to disagree. If you had lived in other places you would know that San Diego does not have the best climate in the US except according to the "definition" of the San Diego board of tourism. It is very humid along the coast. I lived in San Diego three different times in 1960, 1977 through 1979, and again from 1985 through 1988. It is a beautiful city, I agree, and the climate is mild and steady, but there are many negatives to living anywhere in California. I still like to visit occasionally but left by choice and would never return.

To each his/her own. Me owning a diesel truck and living in CA I'm interested in this thread, espically has I have a 305/555 engine that is straight piped with no cat. Everything that I know has of now is that our light duty diesel trucks are and will be exempt.

The nice thing I like about California is not being there!! I lived in Southern California for 22 years. I don't miss the traffic, the bad roads, the Stupid politics, the high taxes, and I am sure I could think of more things! I live in Arizona now part of the year and love it here! The rest of the time we go were we please! If my youngest daughter did not live there I would not take the time to visit!

Happy expatriot.
