Guns, Bows, Shooting Sports, and Hunting what bow for a youth?

Clean it after each time you use it. Depending on which ammo you can probably get a few thousand round thru it before you start having problems

Colts are pricey!!!!

I have a colt AR-15

On a side note, I was at a local gun shop and a father and son just purchased a Colt AR-15 and paid $1910. 00 for it with no case. What is the reason for the high Colt price when other decent brands are half of that amount? Please pardon my ignorance but I'm trying to come up to speed on these things.

Colt is a more desirable gun as opposed to some other brands. They sell for more because they can get the $$$ they ask for it. For me, if I'm bringing that kind of $$$ I'm getting an Noveske.

There's also a cult following, so it may be seen as an investment to some. I see them all as shooters. :D

Here's the chart I spoke of in an earlier post:

According to that chart, my Bushmasters suck. A buddy, who is a SORT team member (same basically as SWAT) at his department, has to have either a Colt or a Bushmaster for his service rifle. That makes me feel a little better about having Bushmasters.

A machinist friend looked at all the popular brands , quality of the casting, machining quality ect. , he thought the Colt sucked and said the the one to buy is the Olympic Arms so that is the one I bought. I think Colt has a good resale just because they were the primary contractor for the government in the 70's. Oh well to each their own.

Bushmasters dont necessarily suck. A few years back they had a bunch that left the factory that sucked.

Theyre just not (or werent) mil spec.

IIRC they have a mil contract now so they probibally changed a few things since the chart was made.

Most people wont know or care if their barrel is parkerised under the FSB. :D

They also use (or used) 1/9 twist bbls. I prefer the 1/7 twist myself.

I also prefer the M16 BCG. You can get a little more out of a 223/5. 56 with the heavier BCG especially if you load your own. . (delays the action opening etc etc) I got my 77gr bullets @ 2900+ FPS out of my 20" bbl with good accuracy.

I mostly build my own. I try to stick to a Colt bbl & bolt and I really like the RRA 2 stage triggers. I have a bunch of Tangodown grips I've been using, but theyre a little small in my hand. I may go to the Magpul MIAD soon.

It's a personal preference.

Just sighted in the new SW MP15 and without any comparison to the others it feels like a very tight rifle. I like it! Brings back a lot of the fun of shooting again.

Big question. I got invited to pig hunt over Christmas in California. Can I legally take my rifle? Sure seems like a great outfit to shoot some pork with.

Thanks again for all the insight. Paul

Mine are:

Noveske 16"stainless barrel

VLTOR VIS upper

BCM bolt carrier group

MEGA lower

Geissle Trigger

Magpul UBR stocks

Magpul MIAD grips,TROY sites

I've been mighty tempted to go for one of their 6. 5 grendels.

I opted to stick to the calibers I have due to reloading prices. Grendel brass isnt cheap!

BUSHMASTER all the way!!Less you are just buying a lower,at this point most are hard to find take what you can get. Everything is a bit pricy.

Patriot, where do you get your . 223 brass from. I just ordered some bullets from Weidners.

I cant remember the last time I bought 223.
To give you an idea how long it's been..... it was $15 for a 5 gallon pail full.
Suffice to say I stocked up. :-laf
The bullets are pricey. Cheapest (on shore quality) I've found is around $125 per 1000. 55 gr.
BTW I'm pretty set with primers and powder.

PWknapp it is against the law to bring your rifle into California. There are exemptions to the law but what you are doing isn't one of them. Also no mags over 10 rounds may come across the border.

If this works here is a picture of a target a friend of mine shot. 300 yards, prone from the back of a pickup, JP rifle, 60 grain Vmax Black Hills Blue box. Optic on this rifle is a Meopta 1-4 power K Dot reticle. And she's good looking too.

Just purchased this same setup

No light though. First Long gun I have a 2 or 3 pistolas. Now if i could get work to let me carry it I think I could turn a few heads.

Just depends on what you want. IMO, lite is mite - I don't want a heavy weapon, especially when recoil is not an issue. My AR is 7#, 1oz with the light, 6#, 14oz without. Built one for me, and a matching one for dad, years ago.
