Chryslers Survival still threatened?!

I think the important part to note is that in 2008 ONE model from Toyota (the Camry) outsold Chryslers ENTIRE passenger car fleet.

The same article was in our local paper today too. The bottom line is Chryler is going to go under no matter how much bailout money they get from the government for many reasons. Mostly bad management, outdated designs, high costs. Soon our trucks will be labeled Nissan (or some other foreign carmaker) and Jeep will be bought by someone else too. Chrsler cars will go bye-bye. i guess we better get over it soon.



So if Nissan buys up the Dodge Truck line and does not change anything exept the badge, would you keep buying Dodge Ram/Nissan trucks? I would.

Oh the flashbacks I just had In 1963 I bought a 1958 Edsel Pacer Convertible. It had been a special order with big engine and all the bells and whistles. It was my second car, bought from my neighbor that owned a garage and got it in an insurance repair deal. I was still in high school.



Everyone laughed until I showed up everywhere with top down and 3 or 4 girls ridingalong.



It was a slow tank until it go moving and was a great road car. Only problem it gave me was the push buttom gears on the steering column. They were operated half mechanical and half electric. The unit mounted under the hood on the side of the motor would overheat and it would change gears on its own, ANY GEAR it wanted. Lost 3 or 4 sets of u-joints that way.



Wish I still had it today. It was not exactly one of a kind, but very close. Saw one about fifteen years ago at a Edsel meet that looked like it and was worth about $35k then. I paid $900 for mine; $75 dollars down and $15 a week until paid for.

Unfortunately, that piece is over a month old - an eternity in these rapidly changing economical times - and likely too little, too late...



As to some "savior" in person(s) or actions - these times are FAR different than when Lee Iacocca was around, and Chrysler in particular has been pretty well gutted and picked over - plus severely mismanaged - by both the Mercedes bunch and now, the Cerberus bunch...



Not even enough left for a "Hail Mary" jump start...



Bottom line is, guys like me with an older, out of warranty truck, are reasonably OK - aftermarket parts will be reasonably available, and we are already in a situation where parts and service are on our tab anyway - but I'd be sorta nervous if I had a truck with lots of warranty left... :{

:-laf:-laf:-laf,Actually it came from the USA,Seattle or some where in that area with 20,000 miles on it. A broker from Vancouver B. C,CAN picks over the used ones/low miles lease backs and imports from about 15-20 dealers in that area and ships them into Canada. His business is mostly from our province(oil patch)where the need for trucks is high. Cheapest i could find a similar one of mine was up to 10-12,000 more $$$$. Only reason i jumped at it was because this truck is clean/mint and the last of the best 2007 DRW,3500 4x4 MEGA "5. 9" auto. Oo. Oo. Oo.
