Hi, my dad has a 99 ram 2500, just like my truck except this one is an abused work truck that has over 300,000 miles on it. He has put some money into this thing to keep it going as it rarely sees recommended services, and just today when we got back from a service call, I climbed under it and see coolant coming out of the block. Not a lot, but it is definitely leaking. I read the article in the latest tdr magazine about the lock-n-stitch, and he was talking about getting a new block. My question is, has anyone replaced their block and if so what kind of $ is he looking at? I told him if it was me, I would trade it in towards a new 1/2 ton gmc work truck, he really has no business having a diesel rig for what he does, it is constantly shut down and started back up. ugh, stressful.

that might be better than what i did which was change the '99 block/engine with an '01 block/engine. my truck is still not working properly.

He can find a good running engine for anywhere between $2500-$4000 & install it. Cummins covered my block when mine cracked, but I had 140k miles & the truck was 7 years old at that time. They supplied block, rings, bearings, gaskets & painted the block black. I had to pay labor, oil. Total bill out the door was $1700. The engine was already removed & I had to pay another shop $1000 for R & I.

Hi, the truck is in a shop right now, the guy is pulling the motor out. Found that the head gasket was leaking as well as the crack in the block, he says he can repair it. I know if this happens to my truck, I'm going to build a killer motor.
