Engine totaled, at 506,000 miles, 2004 truck

Not my truck, a friend who works at the same place I do broke a valve spring on the #4 cylinder and pretty much wiped out the engine. The only thing he had done to the truck to that point was replace the transmission once at 285k miles and replaced most of the u-joints plus the front wheel bearings. These trucks will last a long time. There was no warning and no way he could have known the spring was about to break.



He is now driving a new Cab and Chassis. He will be happy with that one. He got 15. 4 mpg on his first tank of fuel. It will get better as he gets it broken in.

transmission at 285K? That's not bad, was that a NV5600? I haven't seen many last that long if you tow in 6th.

The transmission was a 48 RFE (not sure if those are the correct letters) The truck was a flatbed hotshot truck. It never pulled a trailer but did haul some heavy loads, up to 5k. When I had a 2003, I had a NV5600 and went 345k with no transmission problems at all, replaced one clutch. All I did was pull a trailer.

I'm over 192,000 now, since I've gotten all the "environmental problems" taken care of it is running like it should. The last 40k miles it hasn't even hiccuped.

Major bummer to go that far and have one little part failure wipe out a motor. My '96 rolled 413,000 miles the other day but at least it's getting tired and using some oil :-laf

There's a guy here in town that I see all the time but only talk to occasionally. I was behind him yesterday and he had a license plate frame that said "Chrysler 600,000 mile club". It's a 3rd gen, but I don't know if it's a 03 or 04. I see it on the road all the time, even when I'm out of town.
