I dropped my fuel tank to paint my frame & notice my brake line was rotted bad. I just finished replacing the entire brake line which goes from behind the front left tire [on the frame] all the way back to the rearend.

If you need to replace this brake line, here is what you will need, works out perfect! I just bent it exactly like the factory bends & it was exactly the same length.

This is for a QC 8ft bed truck.

[1] piece of 3/16" brake line 30" long, [2] pieces of brake line 60" long & [2]couplers.

we just replaced my buddys steve's on his 1. 5 short box same side and everything, his was leaking and he lost his brakes, couldnt see a hole but there was alot of corrosion. we dropped the tank to do it. Pays to wash the underbody weekly in roadsalt climates

In the fall spray the bottom of the truck with fluid film and this type of failure won't happen. Been using it for yrs, driving 5 months/yr on salt infested roads, and have no rust issues.

It's not just rot from the roadsalt. I had to replace mine also. When it started to leak I traced it to wear from rubbing on the frame, the spot I found was under the drivers seat and one side of the tube was wore flat and wore through letting the fluid leak out. THe tube looked solid, just worn down from vibration.

I agree eceryone should inspect these lines after a few years.

Brake lines also rust from the inside out, due to moisture in the brake fluid.

Just finished having every brake line replaced on my 95 CTD. Had brake failure and it was time. Ulgy job but well worth the security of having the quality of reliable brakes. If your truck is over ten years old, it's time to check them, for sure.
