Its time for new tires, and I need some input. Whenever I look at the reviews online, everyone has these tires on their 4runner, or s-10. I need reviews from people who have the same truck as I.

I am looking at the BFG A/T 315/70/17 load range = D

or the Nitto Terra Grapplers 305/70/17 load range= E

I have a 6" lift and I dont tow too often, but I had 37" Coopers before and they were toast after 24,000 miles. I need a 35" tire that will last longer than that. I am also open to other tire brands too. Thanks for your input. :)

I hemmed-n-hawed a long time trying to decide on new tires. At over a grand for a set mounted and balanced, I really wanted the best bang for the buck. I have a buddy who bought the TerraGrapplers and has been getting good wear - I'd say 25K miles and just a little more than half tread left, maybe more.

In our area, we have a large selection of BFG's, but I just didn't like the look of the A/T's. The Grapplers have a better look and I've been very pleased with their performance on snow/ice.

So, with that said - I'd go Nitto's all the way. :D

check out the pro comp extreme allterrain. I have them in 37s and about 20k on the with more than half the life left. I had 35 inch extreme mud terrains before the 37s and they lasted 32k which I thought was good for a mud tire driven on the street. stay away from mickey thompsons they are good but a really soft tire and wear out quickly.

I would do the Nitto's, they will run more quiet and will probably be more round in the beginning + you get 10 ply. I came close to getting those but got the dura grapplers, incredible tire, getting past the streety look is easy once you turn the key.

Thanks for the replies, it is much easier to get feedback through this site than to weed through all the SUV and small truck reviews on the tire sites. I'm leaning to the Nittos because of looks and E-rating, plus they are not too much more than the BFGs.

I heard that lots of BFG A/T owners suffer from the Death wobble, is that a myth?

Thanks again for the input.

I average around 35K miles on the Mastercraft Coursers ATs. I'm on my third set and will most likely stick with them due to price; just wish there was a 37" tire available. By the way, these are a Cooper tire.

I had the BFG All-Terrain T/A® KO on my truck and had more than 40,000 miles on them. Are these the BFG AT's your referring to? I didn't rotate properly, so two were well worn, but still legal and the other two had about half the tread left when I got rid of them. I got them for winter driving partially because they has the mountain snowflake symbol on the sidewall. The first year I was impressed with their performance, but the second season performance was noticeably poorer even though they still had lots of tread. Second and third winters were even worse. I replaced them with Michelin All-Terrain T/A® KO. The Michelins have a less aggressive looking tread, but they performed well this winter.

I haven' used the Nittos, and haven't had my truck in much mud or sand with any tires.

Thanks for all the replies. I decided to go with the Nittos. I have heard too many stories about the DW with BFG 315s, plus the Nittos are cheaper too. I ordered them from Discount Tire, and I go pick them up next week. I'll let everyone know my impressions when they're on.

Nitto's are made by Toyo Tire. Nitto's were made for the U. S. market and the exact same tread in Canada is called Open Country A/T. I'm running the Open Country in 285/75/17 and they have performed very well. Nitto's are now sold in Canada.

I am also looking at Toyo A/T and Nitto Terra Grapplers. I can get 285/70/17 in load range E in both brands for about the same price, Just want the ones that will last the longest, any opions from anyone who has run them both?

I've got the Terra Grapplers too, 325/60/20, about 35k on them with probably another 5k to go to the wear bars. If I wanted to push it, I'm sure I could get 50k out of them. I've been very happy with them, and will replace them with same.

Has anyone considered the Nitto Dura Grappler or Toyo Open Country HT? Maybe someone is running them?

I'd like to know how they perform.

I have the Dura's and have also run the Toyo A/T's, Cepek F/C and Toyo M/T's. Snow traction on my Dura's is a little down from the others but they shine so well everywhere else its amazing, super quiet, don't pick up rocks like the others, excellent wet/dry traction, tracks straight, balanced well, they handle my 2000 lb pin weight much better than the others.

If you don't mind a less aggressive look it's hard to go wrong with that tire. I would buy them again for sure.

Matt, I'm glad to hear that. I don't need the aggressive tires, and right now I'm trying to get the most for the money, so I thought I'd consider the Dura's since they have the 45k mile warranty (on the 265/70/17's). Found them online for about $195 ea. which didn't seem to bad.

Nittos suck IMO. I've got around 5k on the set and i've worn them down to 8/32nds at the last check. They were a great tire when i first put them on, they didn't spin in the snow or anything like that. But now they are worst than the stock michelins, they spin like crazy in any wet weather. I hope you guys get better results than i've gotten.

Just my 0. 02

Which size and model are you running??

That is my fear. I have the stock BFG's on right now, and I'd say they have about 1/4 tread left, but even when they were new, they sucked in the wet. I have had trouble launching my boat (which is only 18' and doesn't weigh much) because the BFG's wouldn't hold on the ramp.

Terra Grapplers not worth buying

I got a set on Nitto Terra grapplers 285-75-16 with only 8k miles on them and they are worn down to between 7/32 -10/32 already new they are 16/32. I would not reccomend to anyone.

Last set of BF at's in 285-75-16 I had siped from new lasted me 110k miles the best tire ever but I credit that to having them siped the day I got them.

285/70/17 terra grapplers. I got talked into them by the discount tire manager. I got them mainly for the snow traction in january 2008 after a hairy ride christmas eve to a dinner. I'm lookin' at a set of BFGs or Coopers to replace them with.

wel, the last few messages don't fair well for me.

I've had my Terra Grap's (305X70X17) for about 500 miles. They are a very quiet hwy tire, comparable to stock.

In the few short weeks I've had them I have already experienced deep snow, ice, and slush, and dry hwy miles. The tires have handled great. Excellent grip in all of the above.

I'm just worried about the treadlife. But I would be like that for any tire. My Cooper STTs only lasted 24,000 miles. So if these can last longer than that, I'll be somewhat happy, or at least happier than my Cooper's!

I'm running 60psi front, and about 50psi rear, does that sound good for an unloaded truck? Thanks.
