I moved to Three Rivers, Ca in June 2005. Since then, three mountain lions have been put down within three miles of our property. The first got into a sheep herders stock, the next killed a small family dog (These two were discovered in daylight hours) and on Thursday, March 4th a lady driving into the valley wacked a female cat with her car. Fish and game was called in to euthanize what was left. This last cat was hit less than 400 yards from my western fence line.

El Dorado Co in N Ca has had ther fair share of big kitty prolems as well and if I remeber correctly a femal jogger lost her life.

I think it's time for Ca to start issuing tags again for mountian lions!

I agree. The toll they are taking on the deer herd as well is huge. In Amador county i've only seen two, which is more than most people i admit. However, the ones i haven't seen are what gets me thinking. It's time for the state to really start implementing a management plan for these animals. Unfortunately i doubt it's anywhere in sight on there to-do list. Maybe some of the porkulus bill can't help jumpstart the program.

Until the cats start eating a few more granola eating, perrier water sipping, obama voters you won't see anything like a cat hunt in kalifornia. THEY know better how to manage wildlife than the Fish and Game department. When you see a few more meals being made out of lil Suzie hiking in Golden Gate park, maybe something will be done to reinstate hunting of cats:)

People move into their natural area and then get ****** off because they eat their dog or cat. How many family pets to coyotes get? I have been out in the mountains a lot over 30 years hunting. fishing and cutting fire wood and have never seen one..... but my wife has had one pass through our from yard while she was gardening. Didn't bother her. Live and let live.

You'll change your mind when that kitty attacks your wife.

You ever think about what what frolicked on the ground that you call your yard before you bought your track house?

Why do people that invade rural America on the weekends always seem to understand nature better than those who lived in it for over THIRTY years?

I know this a old post but a letter was just printed in our local paper that was from a passer by-er the night this lion died.

This lady put up a memorial along the side of the hwy. She slammed Fish N Game for using a gun to put this animal down. She also is slamming a local vet that she called to come euthanize this critter; She's bent because the vet told her it was F&G's problem.

I don't live in Cali, but on big water in the deep South. I don't go on my patio at night without a weapon. Unless you live in the city, big cats, wild dogs, bears, reptiles and worse could be behind any cover. . waiting for the right time. Be ready or suffer the consequences. Here, Bald and Golden Eagles routinely snatch house pets whose owners let them roam in the 'real outdoors'.

They were here before us leve them alone!!!

They have been. For a very, very long time.

Whenever Fish & Game decides a certain species needs protection, another species get's hammered.

This is what most "I want to save the planet and animals" idiots don't understand!

There needs to be a balance.

AND NO ANIMAL IS WORTH A HUMAN LIFE! PERIOD!

Folks unless you live in California, you have no idea whats going on with Mountain Lion problem. In 1990 the good people of California decided to protect the Mountain Lion. No more hunts. Since then the Mountain Lion population has exploded. We've tried to overturn the hunting ban on these cougars but our bed wetting libs love the ***** cats. I can't wait to retire and get out of here.

i agree with this completely. folks move into the country, and live as though they are in the city. fido comes up missing or a jogger meets up with a predator on a desolate trail, and it's time to declare war. i have lived in the sticks most of my life, and have never had an issue. i have raised cattle for the better part of 30 years, never had issues there either. as an avid hunter and fisherman, i understand the need for predator control to a degree, and under certain conditons. i personaly have more fear of big cats, then any other animal in n. america. having said this, what few encounters i have had with them, i felt no need to shoot them. if an animal[wild or domestic] comes into my yard causing issue's, i will deal with it on a have too basis. if i go into an animals back yard, i anticipate said animal will either flee[hopefully] or fight. if the animal wins the fight, too bad for me.

There no question about city people living in the country. Just like the ilegals, they bring there garbage with em'.

Cal does need some sort of management program for mountain lions. Human contact is increasing everyear. Whether you like it or not (I don't) but more and more city slickers are movin' to the country and building 5000' sq ft homes one 5 acre lots w/ fescue lawns.

I guess the Ca cat problem is like our dangerous intersections; Not enough people have been killed yet!

I was in Montana for a couple of years... MANY more Mountain Lions and a LOT fewer people, plus the Mountain Lions are hunted! This keeps the Lions afraid of humans and I don't remember any reports of Lions attacking a human in Montana. In California, the Lions are considered more prescious than people, has them confused about the food chain!

If Barney Frank ( D-Mass ) and an Opossum were crossing your highway, which would you dodge with yo' Dodge? Dodging Barney because the Opossum hit would be less damaging is not an 'allowed' rationale. Pretend they're equally small and Barney is not teabagging it.
