I was underneath changing my oil and I noticed an oil leak from the turbo just in front of the oil line that returns to the engine. Anyone had this problem or does anyone know the cause and fix? Thanks.

Sound like the seals are done. Are you sure it is not coming from the oil line. Could be the gasket on the oil line. Are you experiencing any lost power or noise coming from the turbo?

Your 05 should have the accordion style return line on your turbo, make sure it is not restricted in any manner. If it is, it will backup oil in your turbo, and will look like a journal bushing is leaking.

If that all checks out, pull your intake and your boost hose, check for signs of oil, you do not want to run the risk of coating your intercooler with oil. Also check for oil coming out your exhaust and blue smoke from your exhaust.

Check for axial and radial play on your turbo shaft, you will have some radial play, but not to where it is hitting the housing. You should have no axial play at all.

If you do have a thrust bushing going out, have it repaired quickly.

No power loss or noise. No smoke or oil in the exhaust. I will check the intake and boost hoses though. How will I know if it's a thrust bushing, by checking the play on the shaft?

Check shaft play by pushing sideways and turning the impeller. If it doesn. t hit the housing then its probably ok. There is always a little bearing clearance, Moe

No play whatsoever on the shaft. I do have oil in the boost hose though. I can not see any type of restrictions either. Now what?

Re-check the drain tube, no horizontal bends, it needs a continuous downhill flow, remove it if necessary to check for an obstruction.

Re-check the turbo also, it is a bit difficult because you only have easy access to the compressor side of the shaft. Check it warm, you will have some radial play(up and down), but the shaft should not have axial play(end to end).

You cannot have oil flowing into your boost tube, not only will it coat your intercooler and reduce it's capacity, it can start feeding oil to the cylinders, via the intake, and cause a "runaway".
