Hey guys, i was at a truck stop the other day refueling, and this guy asked what kind of fuel additive i use, i had some redline fuel treatment.

The guy suggested acetone, he had the a 99 cummins with 225k miles, and been using since 100k. He stated not only did it clean the system, but it reduced the surface tension in the fuel to allow optimum fuel vaporization, which would result in more power, and a 4% increase in fuel mileage.

Let me know your thoughts guys.

Thanks Eric

Robs fuel of the lubricity needed with a VP44 pump.

Let's see. The optimal dose of acetone for #2 is about 2 ounces acetone to 1280 ounces (10 gal. ) fuel. That's about 0. 16% acetone, by volume.

OK, so *technically* it reduces lubricity by a measurable amount. But how much will a . 16% dilution reduce lubricity?

I ran a gallon of acetone through my 12V fuel system three years ago with no ill effects. (That was 128 oz. acetone to 640 gal. fuel: over 20 or more fill-ups. ) Fuel economy didn't change, but then I was running 5-10 MPH faster (80 from VA to Albuquerque) than normal. But visible smoke disappeared (what little I normally have), and the injectors smoothed out nicely. The engine ran real smooth and quiet; the lope and 'rattiness' pert near vanished.

If one wants to experiment, by all means, experiment. But remember Robert's Replacement Rule: If you experiment, you are your own warranty station.
