I finally got around to pulling the vac-ps pumps for an overdue reseal job. Noticed a broken tooth on the drive sprocket of the vacuum pump. Not the whole tooth, but the rear half of one tooth is MIA. #@$%!

Checked for damage on the other sprockets and can't see any. No clue how long it has been like this 'cause this is the first time it has been apart. Anyone else have this problem, and can I get a new sprocket without replacing the entire pump?

Also when I removed the asy something hit the drain pan. It was an 8mm bolt with a bracket that is made for a spring . Has also been loose for some time and just laying around the ps pump and harness. It belongs in a bracket above the op switch that looks to be the rear support for the inj pump. Don't see where anything, spring, linkage, etc. is missing that was ever attached.

I'm having zero problems with this truck. All I wanted to do was repair a small leak and now it is snowballing for sure.

Will post pics later, hopefully.

Update!!
Just got off the phone with Pete at Gould and he is sending me a "NEW" front section of the vacuum pump complete with sprocket, vanes. All I have to do is the reseal of the rear half. That was the original goal to start with.
FYI, he is very friendly and helpful. He has changed locations. Now is in the Smokey Mountains. Toll free # 877-349-6726. He is shipping it priority mail and should be here Saturday hopefully.
Now, if I only knew where that little half tooth is.

That's great to hear, Mr Gould is a nice guy to deal with for sure; extremely helpful and very resourceful.

Smitty, does the bracket bend 90 degrees, about 1 1/2 inches on each side? If so it is the support for the ps/vp assy. The bolt threads into a flat plate, about a 1/4 inch thick that is attached to the side of the engine. The other end goes on one of the ps attachment studs. If that isn't it, I can't think of another bracket in that area. Also check to make sure there is a bolt going into the IP at the top of that flat support plate.

Not that support bracket Gary, that one was still tightly attached. This one is a small thin bracket with a "stud" on one end for a spring or linkage. The bolt came from the heavy bracket at the rear of the injection pump where it bolts to the engine. Doesn't look like anything has ever been attached to it. It was just laying above the ps pump and hit the floor with I remover the asy. I am going to just put the bolt back in and not worry about it. I can't see where it would ever be used.

Thanks, Smitty

If that is where it came from it would explain why I haven't seen it. The support bolt on my IP fell out and I'm positive the weight of the pump on the back of the gear housing warped it enough to cause the gasket to leak. Micheal at Hot Rod Diesel discovered it was missing while replacing the gasket.

OK, makes sense to me. I may have a small oil leak at the inj pump to housing also, but am not going there now. I know the vacuum pump was leaking so this fix may satisfy me for the time being. Not worried about the small bracket but will replace and tighten the heck out of the support bolt with some blue loctite.

Thanks

That will probably fix the gear housing leak. Lot's cheaper than my fix was. I did get a new cam though. :D
