Peterbilt Tach Problem

Has anyone heard that Dodge heavy duty trucks 3/4 ton and up have been sold to the Sterling Truck company? I saw on an RV show last week a class c motor home that looked like a Dodge from the side, but had a Sterling grill. I also know of a guy that has replaced his Dodge grill with a Sterling grill on his 1 ton.

Sterling is going away.

What you saw very likely was a rebadged Dodge. For the last year or two Sterling has been selling rebadged 4500/5500 Dodge trucks with different grilles. I finally saw one a few days ago.

These will be disappearing after Sterling is closed, of course. I really like the Sterling Bullet grille. Too bad they don't fit an '03.

it could if you changed the front fenders and lights and bumper and all else needed to make the 03 look like the 06 front clip... ;)

that could always be an option if a front end accident ever happened [not hoping one will ever happen though]. if i ever smack up my front end, i am going to update it to the 06 front clip

dang, over 9k posts now... !?! last time i was semi active here you were in the mid 7k range ryan. .

I know when Chrysler was under the Daimler badge (I understand they still are, to a certain extent), Freightliner and Detriot Diesel was as well. I know that Freightliner bought the Ford heavy duty line about 10-15 yrs ago and rebadged it Sterling. That may be the only reason I can even think of why there would be a Sterling badge on a Dodge, because they may still be connected somewhere.

Ryan,

thanks for bringing this to light. I thought most of the TDR people would have already known this, but I guess not.

I also saw one of these a week ago in our town. It had a wrecker type body on it.

It's a shame Sterling is going away, but I can't say I'm surprised. Freightliner can handle whatever demand was going to Sterling. Who knows, maybe they'll re-re-badge the Bullet as a Freightliner? Call it the "Littleliner"! :-laf

And my post rate is down quite a bit the last several months. Nice to see you active on here again; you were away for quite awhile.

The Sterling dealer in town has a Dodge pick-up with the Bullet grill installed, looks pretty neat. The Daimler vans that are/were sold as Dodge Sprinters are also sold by Sterling.

I think they're also sold with Freightliner badges. I assume the Sterling badges will be replaced by Dodge or Freightliner. Same vehicle, different badge.

Actually, if Chrysler is smart about it, they'll badge them all Freightliner. I suspect Freightliner has a better reputation than Dodge. Even if Dodge dealers sell them.

I saw my first Bullet today in Edinburgh, IN. It had a service body installed.

Ya'll got it backwards. Dodge makes the trucks. As long as Dodge builds pickups it will stay that way. Your confusion is coming from the fact that the 4500-5500 trucks are sitting on Sterling frames. The truck is assembled in the same plant as your regular pick up in Mexico. Sterling does sell the Bullet but with the name plate going away I am sure that the Bullet will too. Now the real question is will Frieghtliner supply the frames are Sterling did for the C&C?
