Hey guys is there any universal inline fuel pumps that can work on 2001 24v?

Some say they put after market gas pumps, and it raises pressure to 40-45psi.

How much pressure can the VP44 handle without a problem?

And if it can handle it why didn't dodge supply a lift pump that puts out that much pressure?

Thanks guys

I have read on TDR that the VP-44 really does not withstand more than 14psi continuously. Something to do with a relief valve in the pump. I would be interested in hearing more from those who know as I am considering installing a Fass. Can the pressure be adjusted on Fass, Airdog, Rasp, etc?

Can anyone tell us which units they believe are the better of the bunch?

the pressure on the airdog and the fass can be adjusted... Some easier than others. As far as which is better than the other i believe is person preference... My opinion or choice would Airdog due to the fact of the lifetime warrenty...

I've read some owners have subjected their VP44 to 25psi maximum without a problem, but for most 20psi is considered a good safe maximum. Much beyond 25 psi and it's assumed you'll be testing the limit of the internal accumulator diaphragm to resist rupturing. As long as the lift pump delivers 5 psi or better at full throttle, that's enough to keep the VP44 happy and healthy.

The Airtex gearotor type lift pump is a good replacement to the OEM Carter lift pump. Mine delivers about 18 psi at idle and 7 at full throttle.

Best regards,

John L.

ok, i have looked at the airtex, as a alternative to the expensive fass etc. , but it says not for high performance, but i see landry you have a hypertech, and i have the edge ez module. So i guess if it works for you, it will work for me.
Thanks for info.

EForbes - the airtex looks very similar to the Walbro system I purchased at Glacier Diesel Performance, but looking at their site they don't list any Walbro pumps anymore??? Bummer. I really like the system, easy to install, not real expensive, quiet and reliable, but apparently no longer available - at least from Glacier???

A buddy of mine used a Holley "blue" pump on his '00 2500 with a Hypertech programmer on the "tow" setting. With either the holley pump, factory pump, or both WOT would make the low psi light come on. The holley pump with high flow banjo bolts kept the low psi light off all the time.

I'm using a Walbro and I've had great luck. However, Walbros are getting harder to come by since they started requiring dealers to stock their entire product line.

Thx all, i checked on the walbro, there are still some out there, but the ones i find are max 10psi, and deadhead pr. 2-7psi, probably have to go with the airtex, until i save for the Fass. My new carter lift pump, is max 13psi, and only drops to 5psi under WOT, still, what a hunk of junk, well at least it works for now.

Talk to richard at glacier diesel... The walbro systems are fairly cheap last i bought one(just the pump anyway) They are adjustable... Mine ran about 17psi... You just add or remove fuel shims within the pump to achieve the more or less fuel pressure.

Obviously you need to be sure you don't have an in tank pump first. But I prefer the one good warrantied pump option to a pusher style setup. I know many guys have never had an issue, just my preference.

I am running 45psi at idle, 40psi at cruise and never less than 37psi. Been this way for over 60K. Too much is made of high fuel pressure. Low fuel pressure is the killer.

i run a holley black 140gph. my idle psi is 30 wot-15 i aint starving my vp. i had no problems at all. its a great pump. no need to spend the insane price for a fass. pump was relocted to frame and ran new rubber fuel line. soon to come is reloction of fuel filter to frame.

This is what i have been running, i love it.
Glacier Diesel Power - Product Detail
Talk to richard, I went through 2 walbro pumps,(didn't like bio diesel)
These do and have a lifetime warranty. And you can adjust the pressure to what you like.
I run 19 lbs at idle and will pull down to 14 at wot.

Ive been running 27psi for about 4years now,no problems to date.

If you use the walbro 392 or any of that series of pumps, you have to have a regulator/ return loop. They produce over 100lbs of pressure and that Will take out the vp.

The kit that Glacier sold did have a regulator with a return loop. I should have been a little bit more thorough. Thanks for clarifying that... . Jeff

Does anyone no why Glacier no longer sells the walbro kit? I wonder what the failure rate of the walbro pump is when pushing diesel.

From what i heard was it was costing just as much to sell a glacier kit as it was to sell an airdog... . And how can one sell 2 kits around the same price each with one having a lifetime warrenty and one that didn't? Everyone's gonna buy the better warrenty'd one...

AH HA! So that's why the Walbro is no long on the GDP site.

I've had mine for over 3 years now it was an easy install and super quiet, the only time I ever hear it run is if I'm standing with the door open and turn the key to on without starting it and then I have to listen for it.
