Bob.....

Did you notice anything in the steering?. As far as it being easier?.

Man I never use the dam thing. I like the way the truck looks.

I am currently running with my front shaft off. Been this way for over 500 miles, with no problems. Getting from 3 to 5 mpg increase with it off. Very happy and it is pretty easy to slap it on when you need one more wheel to turn.

Dam AS 3 5 MPG:eek:, Thats almost unbelievable. can you kind of run me through how to do it. I grease the dam thing all the time. Never really payed much attention how its bolted in.

There are four bolts (13mm) that attach the skid plate, then four bolts (don't remember size) that attach the shaft to the transfer case, then four star (T-40 I think) bolts that attach the shaft to the front diff. Remove them in the order listed above. If you remove the diff side first then the shaft will free spin and you won't be able to get the bolts off the transfer case side. You will have to use a pry bar to get the shaft off the transfer case as it will probably be rusted together.

Dynatrac doesnt make an off-set for the dually but there is a company that does. I dont know the name of the company but if anyone needs to know i will find it. I am in the process of changing one, got the kit, just havent had the time. The off-set is kinda pricey so I may run the regular rims on the frount. The off-set will be easy to add later.

Mac note that Avi runs big off road tires and a bit above stock power... ... ... ..... your actual mileage may differ ;)

I'd get tired of laying in the snow and the mud to put in my front shaft everytime I need it. :-laf Its interesting to see how different people use their trucks. I can't think of a time I did not use 4 wheel drive at least once a week in the last year. There's been days my truck has stayed in 4wd(locked in) this winter. ;) If I took out my front drive shaft for any other reason then mechanical failure, I'd drive ten feet and need it back in again.

You won't hurt anything by pulling out the front shaft. Just remember where its at before you go across the back yard to back up to the house, or down the boat ramp trying to get the boat back out of the water. :-laf

Thanks AVI

Not sure if im going to do it or not, but based on what you said it sound like the way to do it would be to losen all the one you can get to with both front wheels on the ground.

Then using my floor jack ill raise the driver side front rotate the wheel/shaft lowering it again then losen the remaining star/bolts.

Thanks

Good idea to mark the shaft at both ends, so it can go back in same way!!!

whiskey

Hey Whisk

I did plan on doing this (mark both ends). For right now im going to leave it on. Even though the dam thing (4wd) doesnt get used often, it would be just my luck to pull over on a soft shoulder somewhere and not be able to take off.

I can just her my old lady now:-{}.
