Trying to install my converter back into my transmission and it will not go back in. Is it like a chevy torque converter where you rotate it and it clicks down a notch, then rotate it the other direction till it seats all the way down? I have been messing around with it about an hour and it just will not go back up on there. #@$%!

If the pump tangs have rotated it will not go in. Can you check to see if the tangs are at 1-2 oclock and the other is 7-8 oclock? Turn them with a long screwdriver.

I can see the tangs you are talking about... . they are at 1 oclock and 7 oclock. Is this were they need to be? Should I rotate them to a diffrent position?

If they are, then it should go in. Try noon and 6.

I found the problem..... The shaft on the end of the converter has a crack in it and is letting one of the two notches on it spread apart. Witch will not let it seat. Anyone know how to fix this or is a rebuilt converter in my future? Does anyone know what transmission would be in my truck, or how I can tell?

Thanks!

You don't fix it, you replace it before it trashes the pump if it hasn't already. I would highly advise a pump rebuild at this point also.

If your truck build date 01-03 and later its a 48RE.

Give Jeff Garmon a call. He'll take that T/Q and fix you up.

That hub does not look so good. If you reinstalled it most likely you would take out the front pump bushing in no time.

It was not running when this cracked... . The engine was so seized up that I could not turn it to get to the torque converter bolts, so I had to pull the engine with the torque converter still attached. I am pretty sure that is were it got the crack. The truck was flooded on the dealer's lot and has less than 50 miles on it, so the converter is practically new. I want to find someone who can just put a new hub on it. Can Jeff Garmon do this?? How do I get in contact with him?

Depending on your location if you have a converter re-builder near you they can easily replace it. Sure beats the $600 cost of a new converter.

Yeah, that would do it unless you kept everything straight.

Replacing the hub on a stock converter that has been flooded is about like polishing a turd, when you get done its just a shiny turd. ;) Do yourself a favor and get a decent TC instead trying to find somebody to fix that one.

Good luck on buying a flooded truck and trying to rehab it. :)

Jeff can cut it open and change or repair anything in it. When you get it back it will be trued, balanced and better than new. 404-557-4972
