Volant PowerCore Filter?

Alright, so I think I wanna straight pipe my truck from the cat back. I was thinking of just getting some pipe and just doing it myself when I noticed that the muffler inlet is higher than the muffler outlet and I realized the pipe to replace the muffler would have to have a s-bend in it to hook up the right way. I want to have it to where the pipe just bolts on where I can swap it out for my muffler once a yr to pass inspection. I looked up prices and geno's is 69. 99 plus shipping which I think is a little rich for just a piece of pipe. Do you guys have any other ideas of other companies or ways to do it cheaper? Also, any thoughts in general about pros/cons of this mod greatly appreciated. I hear the common rails sound SICK when straight piped.

Thanks

Eric

IMO the common rail's straight piped sound awesome! I straight piped my truck when i went to duals by pinnacle power exhaust. If you don't want the bend i suggest you just go aftermarket for a cat back system (if the budget allows) like i did. Two pipes are better than one, imo.

Any questions just ask. My $0. 02.

A lot of smaller shops will do it very cheap for you if you let them keep the muffler. Saves money and effort. I paid a local shop $50.

I have tried every small shop in my aread and no one can bend 4 or 5" pipe. They all seem to specialize in 3" automotive pipe only.

Ok, I went to a parts store that specializes in servicing semi's. I bought some 4" stainless steel exhaust flex-pipe that some of you may have seen before that the big rigs use on their exhaust systems. It is able to be bent to the right shape I need. I paid only $50 for the pipe and the two exhaust clamps that I needed. I'll keep you guys posted on the developments and see if I can post some pics of the install to see if it might help out some of you others that may be considering doing the same thing. I'm puttin' it on tonite!!!:-laf:-laf:-laf

Lets talk about the Super Stock drop-in. I ran one for a short time. Took it out because I could pull the filter minder way down just running around empty. Have you seen this with yours?

Hsmith, I have had no problems with the filter minder on mine. Your sig says you have a 96 though, and your airbox is much different than mine.

Ok, so I have to admit it, I bit off more than I could chew. I was trying to save some bucks by doing it myself rather than buying the kit from Geno's, now it's gonna cost me more than if I would have just bought the kit in the first place. I got the flex-pipe installed but i've got a problem now that I didn't think would happen. Without the support of the muffler there, the tailpipe is very unstable and I can't figure out how I can support it to keep it steady and in one place (i'm not putting pics because you guys would laugh your head off about how rigged it looks under there from trying everything I could think of to steady it, i. e. plumbers tape:-laf:-laf)#@$%!. Now i've got to dish out some dough this morning at the muffler shop to get them to fix the tailpipe. One positive thing though, the sound is AWESOME!!!!!

I just put a 4" farmer exhaust on my '03 I had to cut tabs off my old exhaust to mig weld to the new muffler. I know what you are talking about. First Gens sound the best straight piped. My old regular cab '93 used to terrorize Saskatoon back when I went to University but now with the wife and kids a muffler is a must.
