I hope this is in the right forum. Still new to diesel world and my rig and I want to know answer to two questions that I THOUGHT I knew but dealerships have screwed that up for me by telling me different stories.
What does a Bighorn Ram offer that the other models dont? Is it a lesser model or a better model? And the second question is: Blu-Tech emblem on tail gate. Does this mean the truck is certified for bio diesel or what? I thought it was just for the new emissions crap on it. Owners manual is not clear on these issues. Thanks in advance for any reply.

I don't know about the "Big Horn" package but "Blue Tec" is the Mercedes clean Diesel technology. All 6. 7's are Blue Tec and meet the upcoming 2010 diesel emission standards.

On my 06 "Big Horn Edition", it was a factory installed acc. package available on the SLT model. If my memory serves me, it included, Serius radio, tow package, flip-out mirrors, forged alum. chrome wheels, and tinted glass, among other things.

As RHestand stated above, the "Big Horn", "Lonestar Edition", and "Thunder Road" packages were identical accessory packages offered in different regions around the country and were nothing more than a marketing gimmick and a nifty badge on the truck. Ordering the Big Horn or Lonestar package added a group of popular options to the truck. The package did two things: it caused more buyers to select more options than they might have wanted and it offered a price discount on those options.

You have learned two lessons already. One, dealership salesmen rarely know what they are talking about and will tell you anything. Two, if you ask on TDR someone will know and will provide the correct answer.

The window sticker for my 08 3500 " Big Horn " says no charge for the Big Horn option. Just a badge, means nothing.

Just do like I did. Add air horns, and when someone asks whats a "Big Horn" edition... Have them stand in front of the truck and set them off :-laf

Now that is what I have been thinking. Been waiting for someone to come out and say that. Been going nuts comparing all the models and trying to figure out what the big deal was... hehe... just a name and a free badge... wow! Thanks for the reply bud!

Well said Harvey... well said!

I see that no one as answered your second question, What is the; Blu-Tech emblem on tail gate. Does this mean the truck is certified for bio diesel or what?

The Blu-Tech system is Mercedes Benz diesel emission system, that Dodge is using to meet the 2010 Emission law for our trucks. The other part of your question is, Yes you can run 5% Bio-fuel only. This is in your O and M guide that came with your truck.

From what I have read you may want to install extra fuel filters and carry more spares for them, if you are going to use Bio-fuel.

Just my $0. 02

my big horn has the "wood" dash, alum wheels, tow package, fog lights, sirrius radio, and electric seats. im almost sure its just the step up from the "work truck" SLT edition

I agree with the guys and the 06 big horn, it was more then just a badge... .

With the last name "Horn" how in the world could i have passed it up!?!?!!?

On my dads 06 the Big Horn was

Premium Bench Seats
Sliding Rear Window
Polished Alum Wheels
Body Side Molding
Sirius (should have been, but he has an early 06)
Tow Mirrors
Tow Package
Anti-Spin Differential
Fog Lights

I may be missing something, but I think those are the big ones.

Yeah, I ordered a new '06 very early in '06 and carefully studied the options and option packages. The "Lonestar" package on mine included a list of things like you mentioned above and maybe fog lights. In '06 it was definitely a list of options, not just a badge.

Ha ha ha... . no "y" its spelled "Horne", its French!

Gotta enjoy life somehow, my boat is named "Horny Too" which is pulled by the big horn... . sad... . LOL

OK, now you guys have done it.

I just went out and looked at my BIG HORN, and there is plenty of room for adding a Y, on both the L and R side.

Also I measured the Y in HEAVY DUT'Y'(at 1&1/4" ht. ) on the tail-gate, but it's too tall.

I need two chrome Y's about 3/4" tall. Where can I get some?

It will be somewhat inconspicuous, but it should bring some smiles to the die-hard Dodge fans.

As an added bonus, when my wife finally notices it, she will not drive it anymore. But that's OK, she's always smoking the clutch.
