Those guys have BALLS... . or is it beer... to stand there like that. That freaking thing could grenade from overspeed at any time. But wow. Now they need some water injection into the exhaust (just like Harrier) to cool it enough so it's not glowing cherry red. Material properties go to hell when that happens.

God bless 'em for putting it together, though!

Was it dry ice in the bucket below the intake? I'm not sure what exactly I was looking at, but it is cool!

I think that it was an oil sump. You would have to circulate oil to the turbo shaft. I think that the oil was probably overheated when it drained from the turbo.
 
So after they get the turbine spinning, it spins itself by sucking air through instead of pushing it through? Looks neat.

I figured it was a water-cooled turbo - and the bucket was the water reservoir - dunno about lube...



Sure wouldn't catch me very close to that, when the pipe was straw-yellow... :eek:
