6.7 High oil reading

I was wondering if anyone has heard of this problem? My friends 07 6. 7, changes his oil every 5000 miles with delo 15-40w, after the change his reading is at high high mark on the dipstick, although when its time for his change again it is approximately one qt over the high mark, he has spoken with the dealer and of coarse they are just as perplexed as he. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When changing your oil, it is a must that you remove the oil fill cap and let the oil drain for at least 15 minutes. This is on a engine that has been brought to full operating temp of course. With these engines being a closed crankcase system, it needs to be vented to get a full draining of the oil system.

Thanks for that, I'll pass that on, although as I said his oil is at the high mark after the change, and after he puts several thousand mile on, he is a quart over the high mark?

Need to check to see if there is fuel in the oil. Could be injector or line leaking. Just a thought.

My 6. 7L has been "making" oil since it was new (22,000 miles now). It is usually at the top of the plastic portion of the dipstick. I've done oil analysis at each change and have found high levels of fuel in oil (~1-3%). I've reported this to my dealer, but Dodge claims anything under 5% is acceptable. I remain skeptical...

Thanks very much, that makes good sense, I think he will be doing an oil analysis next, really appreciate your responses. It amazes me that a dealer would allow up to 5%.

Hmm. . I always thought I was getting diesel in the crankcase from Regens...

Yeah, that's how I believe it is "making" oil...



A warranties end, the DPF may just disappear

The diesel particulate filter captures the soot from the exhaust. The engine controller does a periodic "regeneration" in which it dumps extra fuel into the exhaust to heat up the DPF and burn off the soot. There have been some issues with this particular emissions "feature".
