Need '84 John Deere 410B water pump...

Well, as many of yall know I have been talking a couple years about the Arctic Cat Diesel ATV. I bit the bullet and bought a new one to eventually replace my aging Polaris Diesel (which I will keep as a "beater" for now).

This is a nice machine, seems well engineered and is strong. I read a while back of a couple "power enhancements" and performed those today. It does smoke a little now, but is even stronger. Has a top speed of around 48 mph and gets there pretty quick, much quicker than the Polaris reaches its top speed of around 40 mph.

The machine has a 686cc Lombardini inline 2 cylinder engine. It was built for the military and can run on jet fuels or any kind of diesel (certified by Lombardini on a tag on the unit). It has a quick change rear rack system that you can add a dump bed or 2-up seat to. Seems like a sweet machine. Going to try to attach a picture.

For some reason the link would not open? I did look at the design of the thing and a turbo would be possible, as there is room by the exhaust side of the engine. It is an inline 2 cylinder, cast iron block engine, so it should be tough. I tweaked the fuel system a little already and it "hazes" a little now. A turbo would be SWEET!!! :D

Unfortunately, their smallest turbocharger is rated for 50 horsepower engines... My ATV is a 686cc 18 horsepower engine. I have seen some tiny turbochargers on Lombardini engines on Wood Mizer sawmills. It sure would be cool! I will look into it when I get the machine paid for. I have 6 months same as cash...

I worked it pretty hard yesterday. This son of a gun will PULL!

MAN!! That thing is awesome!!! Self contained wastegate too! Dont know how I would come up with a manifold mount, but it could be engineered... May have to look into that cute lil turbo! Sure would make for an even more unique ATV!

Yeap..

It wouldn't be hard to build the plumbing for that thing, you may have to reprogram altitude (MAP) settings though to include boost levels... I really don't think an intercooler would be needed though, probably only push four maybe five #s... :D

The engine is not electronic. It is a mechanical (camshaft operated) injection system. I could add a little more fuel. It has a port for pressurized oil and return oil...

The Polaris is a single cylinder, aluminum engine. It is much more "fragile" built than the Lombardini. I have had lots of engine problems with the Polaris (Fuji) engine. I think I finally worked most of the bugs out but it was not cheap! I don't think it would handle the added "abuse" like the Lombardini appears to. There is a world of difference in how well the Lombardini engine is built over the Fuji. The ATV itself is not any better or worse overall, but the engine is a great improvement. The rear "Speed rack" system is nice, the receiver hitch is very nice, but the plastic shields on the sides covering the engine are very cheesie, obviously "designed" simply to cover the longer inline 2-cylinder diesel engine, its belt driven alternator and the fuel transfer pump, lines, etc on the other (flywheel) end.

Cool..

I have not gotten a good look at the AC diesel yet, but I have liked their platform for years, they used to use Suzuki powertrains, worked on many of their models, all ATVs have mucho cheap plastic. Our local dealer will not deal any with his customers, so he lost my buisness, still like the machines. Sounds like a tough little bugger, have you laid an eyeball on any of the internals? They are going to have to take the load with a turbo. If you get it on, come on out, I would love to show you some areas for a shakedown cruise, above woodline, 9,000'-10,000' or so, should be a beast!

MAN, that would be an awesome place to ride! Would need a turbo in that high elevation! I have the engine service manual. They have a 2 cylinder, 3 cylinder and 4 cylinder engine in the same "family", like the 4 and 6 cylinder Cummins, which share a lot of the same internal parts. The 4 cylinder is available with or without a turbo. Since the parts are shared among the three engines, I would say the 2 cylinder will withstand turbocharging nicely, especially if it is nothing too wild.

I LOVE this ATV. It is amazing how strong it is. VERY torquey!

I bought mine from Shark Cycle in Stafford, CT. I found them on the internet. Got the machine for $6600 delivered to Georgia, in the original crate, with . 3 mile on it! I took it out for ONE spin around the property, then pulled it in the shop and tore it apart for "fuel enhancements". It made a lot of difference. If there is any way you can afford one, now would be the time to jump on it. These things were supposed to sell for around 10 grand originally. I got it with the "6 months, same as cash" deal.

Darn good price..

I think he quoted me 8K when I asked the local dealer a year ago, it was right after they came out. Naw, my little 330s are far from wearing out, I use everything I own down to nothing. They get used pretty heavy when I get up to my mountain property, pulling cut trees, dragging my road, hauling dirt and slash in my home made ATV trailer. But most of the winter they just sit on the tender, go out once in awhile to plow snow, and play with the kids on the block:D...

I would go diesel with everything I own if I lived in a warmer climate. Our winters make it very hard to make my own juice for em. Still want to of course, many problems with room, shop is plum full all the time, hardly room to fart!

You should put that IHI RHB3 Turbocharger, and try and stack a larger Garret turbo on it, then fuel it up with some injectors! lol It'd be AWESOME

One tiny little turbo, like the one CF found the site for should be plenty! This is only a 686cc engine! LOL

CF, your Polaris looks about like mine. I think the only difference in yours and the "sportsman" series is independent rear suspension.
Going to try to attach a pic of mine... It won't let me do it, as I have already uploaded it in another forum. Here is the link... it is at the bottom of the page...

AFTER you save up and buy that nifty turbo, you can start saving up for various transmission and drivetrain parts... :-laf:-laf

I had a Kubota diesel tractor up until we moved here to the smaller place in Oregon - and power was NEVER as big an issue as traction... ;)

Most likely, I will stick with just my injection mod. It is a strong machine, considerably stronger than the Polaris, which is no slouch itself.
