Can someone explain this function of the Smarty S-06 PoD?

"Manual High Idle is enabled in all softwares"

This allows you to manually set the idle from (i believe) 750rpm to 1400rpm using the cruise control buttons. For faster warm up or if you plan to have it idle for an extended period of time it is best to bump the idle up as I have heard that low rpm idle is hard on the motor. I paid the dealer $90 to enable this option... took them 3 minutes... what was i thinking??? :{

$90? Wow. I appreciate my dealer a little more everyday. No doubt Chrysler will close them... I'll have to check the list!

Yup, I didnt bother to ask how much it would cost before I dropped it off for some other recall work. It couldnt cost more than $30 right? They might even throw it in for free since I had purchased my last 4 vehicles there right? :-laf

Oh well, I cant blame them for my failure to ask. I really like my dealership and they go out of their way to make sure I am satisfied. It could be worse!

AWise, when you said "I believe" are you not sure about this functionality or the RPM range?

That's pretty much it.

You start truck, turn on cruise, hit set button. Idle jumps to approx 750. Resume/Accel button makes it jump about 100 rpm each time, set button does the opposite. Idles up to approx. 1500 rpm. It may have even been activated from the factory on your truck... I don't recall. Go try it! You may get lucky...

I'll definitely give it a try later. Should this be done in neutral to insure proper fluid circulation in the auto transmission?

I usually just have mine in park since I go back in the house, I dont know if I have ever tried it in neutral, not sure if it would engage. As soon as you step on the brake to move the shift lever it disengages and goes back to normal idle. I suppose as long as you have the park brake on it would be better to have it in neutral, but again, not sure if it will turn on.

It did not work for me. I tried it in neutral and park but it did not work. Oh well, looks like i'll have to get a Smarty to sort that out. ;)

Well guys..... I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. I have gathered enough information to determine which direction I should go. As many of you would have probably guessed I am now leaning towards getting a Smarty.

Thanks Again! Great Forum!!

kevhype0825,

I'm talking about the ISSPRO gauges that do data logging. ISSPRO Performax PC Datalogger kit goes on the ISSPRO Performax Gauges.

Performax Gauge line from ISSPRO

We still don't have the doggone datalogger interface on our website, but we've been selling a bunch of them by word of mouth. It's P/N R82001. Please PM or email me if you have any questions.

To anwser your question about the edge working with aftermarkert turbo it works great. I think I was able to use it to full power when I got the turbo "mines a hot juice 185hp/390tq". The only problem I have had is the edge reads the maps senser for the boost reading an with a aftermarket turbo you have to put in a boost fooler, so the the edge gauge only reads what the boost fooler wants the truck to think its getting for boost... So there you need to install a manual gauge"when an if uyou install an aftermarket turbo".

Also about the speedo recalibration with bigger tires the edge has a mph in the gauge an you can change it to fit your tires, BUT changes it in the edge gauge not on your dash. You will have to go to the dealer an have them change it. The edge juice works after the ecm so it doesnt change any thing in the ecm it just goes in line after ecm an before the motor. Another thing I like is you can let other people drive your truck with out worring that there going to go above the limits because it will defuel it self

About the high idle be thankfull you guys have 48re not g56's. I went to the dealer to get the high idle an they want me to buy another $300. 00 part on top of the $90. 00 flash, because while its idling they dont want it to jump into gear some neutral saftey switch. Good luck with the smarty everyone that has them seem to like them. ive been thinkn about gettin the JR after I do injector .

Thanks for addressing this question! Through further research I discovered this limitation with the EDGE gauge functionality as it pertains to the map sensor and tire size calibration.

I got a couple MPG gain with the Smarty on SW3, and on previous gen software, I only have smoke if I want to have smoke. As long as I don't lug it or pour on the coal all at once, it's pretty clear in the rear. Makes the truck a different animal, getting rid of the turbo lag and slow responsiveness of the stock setup. Last fillup was 20. 67 hand calculated, majority of my miles on backroads to and from work, average speed 50 MPH.

Can anyone shed some light on this question?

"2. I have read that the first time you use the Smarty it becomes VIN locked. I know I should be able to read and clear codes on other trucks while it is locked but I would like to know if anyone has actually done this across gen's and their results? I would really like to be able to do this for my Dad's truck which is a gen 2 truck. "

I don't even know if the 2Gs use the same diagnostic connector. Even if they do, it's probably not compatible, but I'm just speculating.

I received word from Bob Wagner regarding my question on backward compatibility of the Smarty. He said it would not work as Gen 2 and Gen 3 trucks have different communication buses.
