truck drives great and then just loses pedal function. keep kicking it and it comes back eventually. also i noticed that truck is starting out in 2nd gear (automatic transmission) . any ideas what to start looking for????
key on, then key off 3 times to get codes. They will appear where milage usually is. Post codes and we can go from there, but it may be APPS and it may be VP44. Good luck
The P0216 DTC is a Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure. Before you go and replace the Bosch VP44 Fuel Injection pump, replace the fuel filter and then check the fuel pressure at the VP44's fuel inlet (Note: an inexpensive test gauge set is available online from places like Harbor Freight Tools). Assuming the fuel pressure is good (about 15 psi is ideal, 5 psi absolute MINIMUM), then yes... the VP44 needs to be replaced.
The P1757 and P1762 could indicate the transmission governor pressure sensor is faulty or there's an electrical problem. The trouble shooting steps are extensive and I can provide them if needed.
I'd fix the fuel injection problem first and once that's resolved, worry about the transmission problem if it's still occurring.
1757 Trans. pressure control not equal to target.
1762 is a gov. pressure switch is bad.
1693 a code saying you have a code registered.
0216 this is the VP-44 mechanical timing failure
ok i changed the fuel filter and have 10 psi normal and it drops to 5 psi when revving it up. is there any possibility it is an injector could be bad and causing the miss ?
If the miss you mentioned is only occurring at a specific rpm range and not across the board, and considering you have adequate fuel pressure (barely) with that P0216 diagnostic trouble code, it sure sounds like you have a failing VP44 injection pump and the problem isn't related to injector issues.
