AMink,

My point the seat is narrower. . One edge of ones butt sit's up causing leg cramps, back pain. I'm not sure adding foam will help unless the foam makes the seat more level.

It does seem that the area between the "bolster" is very narrow. If you're not exactly in the middle, one cheek rides higher. It's like they built these seats for guys (and gals) with rears that are less than 12" wide!:-laf

When I got my '07 I would get dusty at work as a carpenter. Seat covers were
required. I killed two birds with one stone by getting a memory foam seat cushion.
The seat still looks like new and it's been great on month long road trips. The
elastic tie downs are a bit wimpy, but it sure beats tearing the upholstery apart. I
got mine at FootSmart for $50, but there probably are other good ones on the market.

I just looked at the foot smart cushion, it looks like it might be able to be placed right under the factory fabric, and I might add a seat heater from Genos on top of it.

One thing about the FootSmart cushion is it levels out the seat somewhat, solving
a problem listed earlier. Not sure you would get the same effect under the
upholstery. The back of the cushion is taller than the seat back on my
'07 but I guess it could be cut to fit. Good Luck.

As I type this. I'm sitting on a contoured memory foam pillow that came with a memory foam topper pad I bought for our 5er - it's about 5 inches thick at the highest point, and makes a good addition to the otherwise thinly padded desk chair I sit in. It's doesn't actually provide much added padding directly at the main pressure points due to it's characteristic settling, but levels out the seat and provides excellent additional support around the edges of my south end...

I think that about a 3 inch memory foam pad on top of the existing seat padding in the trucks discussed here. would make a big difference...

I also hated the seats in my 2005, I tried the new foam, but ended up replacing the seats with after market leather seats, the job was major, I had to rebuild the seat frame from Dodge, lower it, add the factory seat controls, redo the console, it took about 25 man hours, but the seats I now have you can sit in them all day long, worth it I hope, I will keep the truck for 5 more years

Add another to the list of 06 seat haters. My right leg goes numb. I think I might have some back issues to begin with, but if feels like one side of the seat is higher than the other. I've contemplated taking them apart and trying to figure something out, but it looks like there are some good ideas on here already.

I'm having the same issues. My left side sits higher than my right. Also, when I lean backwards, the backrest tilts even further back to the right so I'm completely sloped to my right side. When I lift the lever to make the backrest become more upright, it makes a loud clunking noise and evens out again. So, I'm sloped in the seat and can't lean back without jacking the seat position around. WTH??

You might remove your Wallet.

This is it. Went to N. W. Washington and back. Every time I got out of the truck I almost fell down with the pain in my back and legs. The seat is coming apart soon. If I have to stuff newspaper in there to level the seat out, so be it. I imagine I'll get something a little better, but you get the point!:-laf Hey Dodge, your seats SUCK! The bench seat in my old D-50 was infinitely better and it just went front and back.

Told my wife I was going to take the seats out of her Durango and give her the ones out of my truck. I could hear the divorce papers shuffling... :-laf The seats in her Durango are so comfortable compared to mine, I might see about finding a set at a salvage yard.

I've found the cloth seats of 06 better than the leather. Although the cloth aren't good either. I replaced mine with a set of leather out of an 08 and they are fine.

Well, I did what I could with the seat today. There is no need to remove the seat from the truck (I have the cloth with driver power only). If you reach under it, you can feel the plastic clips that hold the cover on the bottom part of the seat. Undo all of those (there are 10 total, I think) and the cover comes off revealing the cushion. That lifts out. Be gentle, as you might have to get behind the seat and move the piece that hangs over the back. I replaced the springs that hold the wires, as they seemed to sag quite a bit when I sit on the seat. I used some coat hanger. Don't know if it'll last, but it helps. I then cut the middle of the foam out and replaced it with 3" high density foam. I peeled what was on the the bottom of the piece that I cut out and glued it back on the new foam to help protect against rubbing on the wires. I also put two 1x1 pieces under the bolster to help keep them from sagging so much. I did glue the new piece in the seat using some spray adhesive that I got at the fabric store where I got the foam.

A few more pics

I did cut the front of the new foam down a little. It is a lot firmer than the surrounding original foam and I could feel it under my legs.

After driving around with the new foam, I went back in with a very sharp fillet knife and "filleted" a spot for my cheeks. :D Much better! It felt like I was sitting on a perch. Good for going straight, but felt like I'd fall off in a turn. I also put the springs back and now it seems firm but comfy. It'll be a while before I spend any long time in the seat, but I'll let you know how it worked. I think Dodge puts the squishy foam in for first impression comfort, and that works, but it is too soft for bigger, heavier folks. I also think that it has broken down some since it was new.

Update

So far, so good. It might not be up at the level of a Recaro, but it is WAY better than it was. I still have to do a long drive, but the 30 minute around-town rides have been much better. Oo.

I am not impressed with the seats in my 05 either, I like that they are cloth and not the ugly stuff they went to in 06 but the seats in my 02 are awesome. The 05 seats are narrower and bite into my outer hips as I am a wider man in the posterior also and weigh in at 270ish.

270ish??? You wish :-laf:-laf:-laf Sorry Bill I tried more than you can imagine to resist that shot but just couldn't find it within myself to do so. Still buddies???

I've got an 09 with the basic seat. What would I need to install a power seat? is there a wiring harness available?

Every one is correct this seat leaves a lot to be desired. I have a Wal-mart waffle seat cushion with a beaded seat cover over it and it is just bearable.

I'm on a road trip but when I get back to AZ I'll be hitting the salvage yards for an upgrade... .
