:eek: just talked to a nice guy named jim at us gear about how pleased i was with their gear splitter in my 97' 3500 4wd. and he informed me that they were bought out by general dynamics for their gear division and they closed down the r. v. branch. so their will be no more us gear overdrives[gear splitters] made. so get them while you can.

I wonder where all the molds and tooling went. I sure hate to think someday I will have to remove it from my truck because I can't get parts. Mine has about 120k on it and it isn't going to last forever. I am surprised they didn't sell the rights to someone else.

same here, i love mine and would hate to have to go without or end up with a GV unit

I wanted one soooo bad but now I will have to rethink things..... I spoke with a fella there the other day and he said they have not been made for about a year or so now.....

I almost hate to but a used one (or new one if a dealer still ha son) and then have to worry about parts if somethings goes wrong... .

I don't think I'll go the GV route..... I may look in a med duty truck transmission when my clutch wears out...

What happens after 60K?

part of the issue is that the GV unit uses a clutch material friction cone that wears out and is the unit is dependent on oil pressure to operate. the US Gear unit is purely gear driven and uses an external electric shift motor to operate

Clutches, planetary gears. Sump usually is full of metal. Then, you replace it before you go any farther. I think their replacement policy is fair. Some have gotten well over 100k with no problems also.

jim at us gear said, that they still have a great deal of parts for them but at the current time the have no plans for production. kind of a shame if you ask me. that means gear vendors is the only show in town. what do you think no competion will do for their prices? also what are the rv guys with exhaust brakes, and /or the people that found it useful to split gears in 4wd going to do? you can't even use gearvendors in 4wd. :{
