Honda Civic tires

The son's college "97" Civic needs tires, quite tires. This little car has more road noise than any car I've ever driven. Of course an interior strip down and Dynamat would be the utlimate solution, but I'm thinking the right tire could help and just wondering if anyone has and advice on stock size, quite tires.

Thanks, RR

Hello Mopar...

Unfortunately, tires won't do much for road noise. Civics are notorious for road noise and all noise just bleeds through the bare bones body- air noise, road noise, bugs splattering, etc... . I've got 125k on my 2004 Civic and commute about 70 miles each day. Tires haven't made any noticeable difference to noise.

However, I will recommend the BF Goodrich Touring T/A series tires. Best set I've had to date. I went to Costco and put on the current set at 85k and they are wearing great and weren't (relatively) that expensive. They have a 60 or 70k mileage warranty if memory serves me correctly. I think mounted/balanced/tax was less than $400. I do believe Costco had a coupon promotion at the time (probably $70 off a set or something like that). I can check specifics if you'd like.

I just checked their website. They don't make the Touring t/a in the 185/65-14 (your stock size). Sorry. But the do make the Traction t/a in the stock size with a 60 or 70k mileage warranty. With the experience I've had with the tires right now, I wouldn't hesitate to get them if I was you.

At ~$65/tire, it seems reasonable. I imagine you could find them locally for around the same price or just a little higher installed. See here: TRACTION TA

If it was me, I'd put them on my son's car and tell him to turn up the stereo. Hope it helps.

With all due respect, I'm going to disagree a little with scooter. The old tires on my Civic were HORRIBLE for road noise. They were the OE Firestone FR360, and the noise drove me nuts. It sounded like I was constantly driving around on 4 basketballs. This particular Civic is a 2002 model.

Last year I finally replaced them with Kumho Solus KR21s. These tires have a freakishly long treadlife, and much less noise than the junk Firestones.

Can't you get tires for a Honda at Domino's?:-laf

I had better luck with the Big O brand touring tire on our old Eagle Vision (lower profile tires than a Honda) than the OEM. They were much quieter, but the car was still loud. My CTD is quieter on the inside than the Expedition. Taller sidewalls help.
