2005/2006 Dodge 3500 series

Looking to buy a 2005/2006 Dodge Diesel 3500 , 4x4 with auto trans. , and 3. 73 rear end. Was looking for specific payloads/towing differences in the 3500 series with a short box SRW... long box SRW and long box DRW. ?? Or are they all the same given the above parameters. ?? Or another way to word the question... is what am I giving up if I forgo the dually. ???

I can't help you with what the factory has to say. . but I have an 04 that's stock... for the first 260K miles it pulled a 22K lb trailer up and down I-5, I-84, I-90, I-15 with the trailer at gross most of the time... . 1 set of brakes at 160K miles and one clutch somewhere in there and that was it...

We did change all our 3500 duallys to 19. 5" and tires along the way... it worked well across the desert at 110* from LA to Phoenix to Las Vegas and finally up I-15 to Spokane...

We later moved to a larger truck... we just were at the limit for safety and weight... the trailer had power disc brakes but was still slow to stop in a panic... .

So I know the truck will do way over what its rated at... and live well... . we still have the 04 but now a local truck working a much lighter load...

Thanks folks... ... ..... ended up buying a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500 SLT, Turbo, 4x4, quad cab dually, w/auto. Should work out just fine.

You did the smart thing. A dually is always a better choice when you will haul a heavy camper or tow a large trailer.

The subject always stirs up differences of opinion but I've never read posts by anyone who is pulling or hauling with a DRW who wants to trade his truck for a SRW.

I agree with the first sentence Harvey, but if I ever get another Dodge to transport with it will be a 2500, for two reasons. The first is that it will allow me to pull bigger trailers and not need a CDL. The second is the rediculous permit fee for duellies in AZ. One of these days I'm liable to get caught slipping past their POEs :-laf

Once you had a dually, you'll never go back to a single wheel, unless you only use your truck to haul flowers to a funeral.
