The older MH we just bought, was set up for and included a 13 inch analog color TV in a overhead cabinet above/between the driver/passenger seats.

The cabinet space is inadequate for any TV device I'd want to install, but wonder if anyone has installed a flat panel LCD (type used in PC monitor operation) fed by an external digital tuner? A TV/DVD combo player would be even better. My ideal, would be a 23 inch or so panel. mounted in a swing-down configuration so it could be stored out of the way when traveling.

Anyone done - or seen - anything like this - or perhaps have a source where one could be bought? The panels are easy, but haven't located any TV tuner/DVD player setups to feed it with...

UMMmmmm - guess I didn't make myself clear - I'm NOT looking for a 12 volt, all self contained TV - what I *am* looking for, is (especially!) an OUTBOARD TV module that will provide the DIGITAL OUTPUT to feed into and drive a commonly available flat panel LCD, such as is used for computer monitors - the flat panel LCDs are pretty easy to locate, but so far, I haven't seen any OUTBOARD digital TV modules/converters - or a TV/DVD module, to feed into the flat panel display...

These sort of tuners are pretty common as plugin modules and boards in PC's, but I'm looking for an external, self-powered and self-contained one that doesn't require a computer for operation or control.

The 12 volt option might be a nice plus for both - not not necessary... ;)

I already HAVE a 22 inch flat panel, 110 volt HD Digital TV I *could* use - but it's thicker and heavier than what I'd really want to suspend in swing-down fashion from the overhead where I want to install one...

Check this out. It would involve some tinkering and it would probably need a USB tv tuner but it would do everything you want and more.

Thanks - looks too "gimmicky" - really want something all 1-piece, self contained (except for power), that is digital TV, remote control, and hopefully even contains a DVD player. The plan is to install this up in the space where the older and bulkier CRT analog color TV was, along with a good sound system.

One of the older VCR's would come close, except for the proper LCD monitor video output...

Been doing lots of Internet searches, but nothing yet...

Well generally DVD players don't have tuners like old VCRs but there are DVD recorders that do. They work just like a VCR but use DVD's instead and they are usually made to plug into a monitor. Here's a link that explains a little. You'll have to scroll down to the DVD recorder section.
