I've been going through an airfilter every 10K. I'm not on dirt that much. The latest one tried to collapse and go up the intake tube. Why oh why would they engineer a smaller airfilter than on 12v's for a truck with way more horsepower? Suggestions please. I would like a paper filter that I don't have to clean. I loved my BHAF on my 98.

If I could find a reasonably-priced BHAF kit, I would do just that.

I haven't see one at any price in quite a while. Unfortunately, I have neither the time nor the resources to fab one up myself.

A Spectre plenum from your local auto parts store, a piece of ready rod, a cool blue hose, an AH19037 and your in business. Simple, effective.

I used to suck the filter minder down a third of the way with a NEW stock air filter after a hard freeway entrance. I installed an AFE Super Stock filter (Genos) about 10k back and have yet to see the minder move more than a millimeter or so and I have not cleaned the filter yet. This even after several 1000+ mile tows to Az and back to San Diego running steady 30psi in several places climbing from Phoenix to Flagstaff (7000 feet). I also have a Banks Six Gun I installed a few months ago (nice unit, but now I found the limits of the stock clutch). The AFE is a robust unit.

Mine used to suck the filter minder in on a new hi-flow filter. Got tired of that.

Gutted the TQ tube and drilled six 1. 25" holes in the bottom of the airbox. No more problems with filter mider, filter just get dirty faster. I have dynoed to 460 HP with\without the filter and there is no difference.

I put a 6. 7 air box in mine, bolts right in. The filter is twice the size. I would put pictures if I new how. Got it !

Yes but it didnt take munch. I mounted the sensor so it faced the same way as it did before. It has been to AR and back no coeds over 2k mils. The hose down to the by turbo has port that had to be blocked off also. The opening on the lid and the top of the hose are munch larger. I had collapsed some to. With twice the filter area it has to hold up better, filter sure looks good. The filter on the right is a stock one.

jfriesen what they did is a very bad idea the only good one is the 6. 7 one. the hot under hood air really hurts turbo compressor efficiency and if you tow you are going to pay for it in mpg. first try a psm kit and a fleetguard filter the psm kit is nothing more than a 4 inch hose out the bottom of the filter box but lets the dirt drop out and brings cool air in. the fleetguard has a foam pad on bottom that helps this also. do both the 6. 7 and the psm and you have the very best.

Even with the 6. 7 the lack of flow is inherent in those filters. A BHAF will outflow any of the setups hands down. Add an outerwears cover and they last a lot longer.

Underhood hot air is only a problem if you spend a considerable amount of time under 35 mph, otherwise its a non-issue due to the air flow thru the engine compartment.

Between the normal flow generated by the aerodynamics and the fan forcing the air in the under hood temps vary little from ambient, about 5 degrees at speed with maybe 10 or so as you slow. The 3rd gens have the filter at the front where the cooler air is flowing anyway and it negates the heat soak the 2nd gens could have under certain conditions.

Same here... it wasn't a restrictive filter, but a restrictive box intake. I could suck the filter minder in completely with a single WOT run on a stock truck (less than 5k miles) and a new filter...

I also drilled a bunch of 1" holes in my stock intake box bottom and it now takes a lot of miles to finally tweak the filter-minder in at all. Not sure how it would affect warranty, but it definitely helps...

On a side note, I spoke with an RV transporter a long time ago driving a "new" 3rd gen 3500DRW. I still had my 99 then (so it must have been an 03 or early 2004 [pre-"600CTD"]). He had put 150k on the rig and he claimed Dodge had put five different intakes on his truck because it would suck the filter into the intake tube when they got anywhere near restricted. I know for fact that his intake (which looked 100% factory mind you) was nothing like the intake in our 3rd gen trucks.

Yes I was talking about the depth of the pleats. And hot air is a big killer all the way around. I really looked into this. I put a vacuum gage in the box and couldn't get enough of a reading to make it worth while to put a tube out the bottom. Unless you were looking to get a ram air effect. Then you would have to point it out the front, like the banks set up does (great for a hot rod not a work truck). But if you are going to ram air you are going to ram rain and what not in. I think that's why mine collapsed to begin with. The stock air passage must work as a bit of a ram or the filter wouldn't get near as wet in the rain. The water being heavier would have pasted the box intake and collected in the back of the open area in the fender so there has to be some kind of presure in there slowing the air down so the rain can make a right turn in to the box. That's why I couldn't get a real vacuum reading. At low speeds in the first few gears and top RPMs you know romping on it, is the only time I saw any thing. My truck is a manual so air could recover and the turbo had to spool up again and again. An auto might have been able to pull some real readings. But I was just trying to make my truck stop swallowing filters and keep the same amount of filtering. It already likes eating POSI's and NV5600's.

I think the 6. 7 setup flows pretty good for mild mods. The engineers at dodge aren't all bad.

I really like what DGameLin did, and also this option.

But I've always figured that when I get the itch for a different intake I'm going with a BHAF.

You guys with the sucked in filters, was that stock? I've never had a problem (truck is stock), and I never pull the filter minder down at all. I use only Mopar filters, replaced every 15k.
