The truck is an '04 Powerstroke 6. 0 Auto transmission, 4X4, Harley Davidson Edition.

It ran this morning OK, but now it won't start. The engine turns over, but just cranks, will not start. The glow-plug light will not come on on the dash. We have swapped relays and checked fuses, and still no start. We think it is the glow-plug module, but not sure. He is not very mechanical, and I know nothing about Powerstrokes. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

is it getting fuel to the pump?
If it turns over thats where i would look 1st.
Shouldnt need glow plugs yet as its still warm most areas.

I ran across one like that in a TN rest stop a couple years ago. I've also seen lots of them on the side of the highway or on roll-back wreckers, possibly the same, or another of the numerous problems that plague those junk engines. It may be a common Ferd Sick. Oh problem but I don't remember what it is.

The best help you could give your friend would be to tow his Sick. Oh to a Dodge dealer and take him inside to meet a salesman.

if you thinksit's a glow plug issue try spraying some wd40 in the intake while cranking should fire as DBentley says

There are a ton of possible problems.

Here are some of the common ones,Low oil level,High pressure oil operates the injectors. Fuel conditioning unit under the truck, under drivers seat will get contaminated, killing the pump. See if its buzzing when you turn on the key. It gets full of water or debris from the fuel tank, is a very common issue. Some of these trucks have fuel tanks that start flaking apart inside the tank. The cam or crank sensors are also a very common issue.

Thanks guys. He said he could hear the fuel pump running, so he picked up some new fuel filters today. He said he couldn't remember the last time they were changed. We will drop in the new filters tomorrow morning and see what happens.

i am limited in my 6. 0 knowledge as well, but i believe that the early 6. 0's injectors fired off of oil pressure... . so if there is insufficient oil pressure, the injectors wont "pop" meaning no fuel to fire.

the solution? replace the batteries

i know that sounds weird, but I have a buddy who is a ford tech (its called job security!! :-laf) and thats the FIRST thing they do when a dead 6. 0 comes in with those same symptoms. the reason changing the batteries helps is, even with the old batteries cranking, its not spinning fast enuf to build up the correct oil pressure to fire the injectors

hope that helps

ps, maybe try charging batteries overnight? idk if that will do it or if you just need to try replacing... i kno they just replace @ the dealership

Sometimes we totally over look the problem by not looking at the most simple things first . . . :-laf

Not that we "Cummins w/Dodge wrapper" owners aren't plagued with our own things.

Sorry couldn't resist. You are a good neighbor trying to help out the other camp.

Thanks guys. We got it running this morning. He found someone to come by with a scantool, and there were no codes. We unhooked both batteries, waited 10 minutes for the computer to reset, and it fired right up.

Thanks again.
