Status symbol... good way for the rich to spend disposable income.
Sorry, My Friend. The same can be said about diesel trucks. Needs vs wants. A Custom rifle need not be a beautiful piece of art work any more than a precision tool or an expression of scientific or competive interest. A "beanfield rifle" or western game rifle for the open country of the Rocky Mountains or a varmint getter is not always available, over the counter. There are specialty requirements, not met by production offerings, just like modifying the Cummins to run better and more efficiently or all out racing. If you are satisfied with minute of barn door accuracy, that is good, for you. I much prefer to thread the bullet through the key hole on the latch plate on the barn door at 1/4 mile. If accuracy, delivery of energy to a specific point is not your goal, a shotgun works great and no one will look down their nose at you for meeting your personal requirements. If you use it, or not, who determines the status symbol? Some of my questions were; does it work for my purpose, do I have the time and money to build it, can I make cases for it and the potential accuracy of the rifle, can I rebuild it? I never really cared about what others think about my choices! Respectfully, GregH
Nice rifle, but if I was going to drop that much, I would go for a Barrett . 50, they make good varmit rifles!!
My Friend, You dont understand. One, $9000 is alot of money, but! Jarret was the builder of the original "Beanfield Rifle". The Remington Sendero and other brand rifles that copied that idea merely were take offs on that concept. The rifles you see, over the counter today, were generally concepts that originated in the mind and on the bench of a custom gunsmith. After many moons, the major gunmakers would pick up the concept and run with it. Albeit, alot cheaper.
Yes you can kill an elephant with a 7X57, and I think that is a fine round as well as many other well known cartridges, such as the . 308 Winchester (building one of these right now), . 30/06, and . 45/70. I do not have magnumitis and have built my own rifles for many decades.
Yes, Jarrett is cashing in on his reputation as a custom 'smith! Good for him. Capitalism at its finest.
One point I am trying to make is that I see no sales literature that markets status as a reason to purchase his product. Pride in ownership is one thing, I reckon I dont hang with the status crowd.
BTW, I have a few clunkers in my gun cabinet, my-own-self. However, they shoot less than 1 MOA, otherwise, they get rebuilt, With two exeptions, my Dads rifles.
Jarrets 1/2 MOA claim is impressive and is a far cry from 1 MOA!
If you want a TIKKA TRG-42, . 338 Laupa or a TRG-22 in . 308 Winchester, you will pay $3000. 00 plus. So Tikka has their extended price line, also.
So this goes back to other point! Is yer Diesel Truck a Grocery Getter, An RV with trailer or a race machine? I see only needs vs wants. Respectfully, GregH
