I have the normal early up down shift between 2nd and 3rd like it can't make up its mind unless you take off at about 1600 rpms or more and keep it there. I also have an early up shift that will take me from 2nd to 3rd lockup than at 40 mph I get an eratic hard shift to 4th this is without the tow haul mode ingauged. My truck has always had these issues but the dealer keeps blowing me off. I have 66000 miles on the truck and I am about to change the fluid, filter and ajust the bands. I was wondering if I should be changing any of the solenoids or anything else while I am into it?

I hope I explained myself clear enough any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Is it the 618RE?

And is there an upgraded transducer available?

Yes, 618RE upgrade.

AFAIK, there is no transducer other than OEM. It doesn't seen to be as problematic as the solenoid though. Most just upgrade the solenoid and put a new OEM transducer in.

The gov press sol above will take care of your shuttle shift problem. The other problem with overdrive and lock up may be a bad connection in the plug. The scan tool will show a low voltage soft code that can usually be fixed by unplugging and cleaning with contact cleaner. Then blowing out with air.

X2 thats what i would do.

I relay appreciate all the responses. I am going to replace both I wish someone just had a replace Gov Sensor that went in the existing spot. Also does anyone know where the connection/plug is that could need cleaning?

Thanks again!~

117,000 miles.

Had the same problem. A friend and I took the 48RE out last night and found the front band nearing the rivets, worn clutches, etc.

We had the rebuild planned for 2 weeks and installed a billet cover triple-disc torque converter, master rebuilt kit, upgraded bands (no slots), a shift kit, new solenoid and pressure thingy he had me buy.

I am so very pleased with how the power gets to the wheels now. Unbelievable difference. My biggest concern now is keeping my foot out of it so I won't need tires soon.

See pics. The black engine paint was my idea.

Not sure what you mean about no replacements:confused::confused:, I post links to 2 of the 3 that are proven to work. DTT has the other one and just call them. The problem is they are too small for what they are supposed to do and very susceptible to dirt and pressure variations. The upgraded parts will cost you less than the dealer wants for the OEM pieces.

The plug is on the trans, drivers side about th emiddle of the trans. It points up and is back on the ledge created by the pan rail.

Hope you got a billet input for that triple disk and just forgot to mention it. ;)

If not better plan on it. Your gonna hook to a heavy trailer sometime and forget to let it shift to OD out of TH and BANG, that will be it. The stock input does NOT like the triple for heavy duty high power applications, and, it really doesn't take the OD shift in TH for very long.

I didn't get the billet input due to the cost. I have a 7K # max camper and never tow with OD engaged. I hope I will be OK with it. This is my first mod to this truck.

My transmission buddy has a 99 dually and guess what?... . He has a billet input on his triple disc.

Man this thing shifts nice!!!

If it breaks, back onto the lift... Thanks.
