I received my Smarty S06POD last week and loaded Catcher #3 yesterday. After letting the truck warm up I took it for a test drive. My first impression was that the truck was not as responsive as I anticipated, so I changed to Torque#2. WOW  want a difference. The truck is now very responsive and full acceleration runs from 40mph really put a grin on my face!:D My question for anyone running this Torque level is how hard is it on a stock transmission? I don't abuse my truck at all but I pull some very heavy loads. I would like to hear from someone who has run this setup for a while.

Kev, I would plan on trans upgrades in very near future, and not just because of the Smarty. My torque converter was very "slippy" at 30,000 miles, so I had Goerend re-do the trans. I couldn't believe the difference! I went from hating the stock trans to loving it!! It's been a year now, and LOTS of heavy towing with it with my Smarty Jr and zero problems. This week I get twins, and Dave Goerend says trans is built to handle it. THAT'S peace of mind!!!! (Even if truck was stock, I would still recommend trans upgrade)

Thanks for your advice!

Do you mind sharing what configuration you run with the Smarty? (i. e. TQ and TM #'s)

I have run mine on setting 9 with the regular revo SW and a stock transmission and it has held so far, however i don't abuse it such as powerbraking or boosted launches. I usually have the torque on mild or moderate, the timing and rail pressure set for stock injectors and boost control off. Have fun I love my smarty

Kev, I alternate between Economy setting and Performance setting on my Jr. Apparently, I'm not smart enough to fully understand all the TM and Timing settings and what they all do (0=stock, 1=default, 2="normal", 3>2, 4=the sum of all numbers divided by pi..... ) so I just leave everything on "default". I love Smarty Jr, just don't fully understand it...

:-laf lol... I know just how you feel, I thought I was taking a calculus test the first time I read through that. Why not make it stupid simple 0(least) - 4(most), done, no questions.

Hey MChrist! Would you mind letting me know how much you paid for your transmission upgrade/rebuild? Mine's starting to just barely slip when it's cold and I want to be prepared for the inevitable and want to have it done correctly. Also, where is Goerend? I see you're in S. Illinois, not too far from St. Louis. I wouldn't know who to trust in this area for properly rebuilding my transmission. Many say they can, but really don't know how or they don't know the "tricks" to doing it right. Thanks!

Bob

Bochuck, actually I live in Northern Illinois, and I drove to Goerend Trans in Iowa to have them do it themselves. Dave has a list of people he trusts to install his stuff, maybe somebody near you and he can just send you the parts. He offered me the same thing, but I didn't know what was wrong with my trans, so I didn't know what parts to get. If I remember, it was around $3500 including an upgraded flexplate, all billet (minus output shaft). Totally different truck now!

Now I know how much to save when the rainy day hits! I'll have to call Dave and see what he recommends for shops in this area. The transmission always seems to be the week link in the drive train. I can't understand why Dodge didn't go all out when redesigning the 47RE into the 48RE. Maybe if they made a 100RE it would stand up to the mighty Cummins! :D Heck, it'd be nice if Dodge offered an extra heavy duty trans from the factory. I'd be willing to shell out more money from the start and not have to worry about it later.
