I found an '07 2500 with the 5. 9 I6. Just wandering how this motor is as far as reliability. Has anyone had or heard of any issues with this year model? Also the truck has a 11" lift on 41" tires. What kind of fuel economy should i expect?

It is pretty much the same truck that I have. The 5. 9 does not have the DPF that the 6. 7's have. It is a great truck and should last a long time (although the transmission may give you some problems down the road, if you tow with those large tires). As far as miles... . it depends on your driving style, kind of tires, tire pressure, where you live (mountains or hills), gearing, ect... too many things will effect it. My guess would be 13 or 14. I am assuming that it is a 4X4...

Do you know the history of the truck, or is this one that you just found for sale? With an 11" lift on 41''s, I would be much more worried about driveline/steering components than I would be with the engine.

It is one I found locally for sale. It is an 11'' Superlift and I have not contacted the owner yet to talk about steering/driveline components. I have never owned a lifted truck so any pointers as to what i should be looking for would be great. Right now I have a '97 2wd diesel 2500 and i get stuck on a regular basis, so I am in the 4x4 market. I was asking about the engine because i hear about all these newer 24v being a headache with injectors and other emission control components.

My comment will risk offending the four wheeler/off roader group here but I would not be interested in a used truck with the lift and huge wheels and tires you described.

Modifications like that put enormous stresses on the front suspension and steering components and the driveshaft, universal joints, and carrier bearing.

I would keep looking for a nice low mileage 4 by 4 with OEM parts.

I third what Harvey says. If you want to modify the truck once you get it then it is done the way you want it. You could be buying a real headache with a truck that has been raised 11 inches!!!! I have a '07, 5. 9 and I love it. Bought it new and have not had a single problem with it. I have only done things to make it better for towing.

Why start worrying about offending anyone now :)

Anyway just like modifying for towing there is a right and wrong way. I agree that 11" lift are usually not done well so be very careful.

I wouldn't want a truck with more than a 37" tire max (I prefer 35" though) and 2 1/2 - 3" of lift in the front and leveled in the back. I really don't see the point in going bigger, especially for a DD. The Common Rail Cummins has proven to be pretty reliable.
