Grid heater/check engine light

I need some help/suggestions. My check engine light keeps coming on and indicating that the grid heater is bad. I have had problems with this several times since the truck was new. So far the dealership has replaced the grid heater, cleared and flashed the computer, and recently replaced the emissions computer. The only mods on the truck are a K&N air intake, Banks Monster exhaust, and a Banks Ram Air. The dealership told me last week that if the light comes on again they are going to blame the Ram air. Of course 2 days after replacing the computer the light came on. It is a 05 2500 Ram 4x4. Any ideas or suggestion would be helpful. Thanks

I wanted to disconnect my grid heaters so I pulled the wire going to the solenoids and this caused a code so I would check the solenoids below the passenger side battery and see if they are working

i agree, i removed my grid and harness from the solenoids to the grid, no lights.

So is this a common problem? Could the Banks Ram air be causing the check engine light?

If the computer does not see a voltage draw from the grid heater solenoid it will throw a check engine light. Check to see if the solenoid is working. I removed my grids and solenoid and the light came on. I had put the solenoid back and connect the small wire to it so that the computer sences the draw. My check engine light disappeared after 30 or so start cycles.



I don't see how your ram air would have anything to do with the heater grids.

They do not know which way to go, so now you are at fault with the after market stuff. Even though you had this same problem when new. Find another dealer that has some smarts.

I was wondering about the ground making the complete circuit? but you had the problem when new.

for sure, but it is probably an easy home fix hopefully

One simple thing to check is resistance across the heaters. If it's infinite, then you're blowing grids. If it's not infinite, then I'd point directly at the relays.

But I find it hard to believe a dealership wouldn't have considered the relays already. Could they really be that clueless?

WELL. THEY DID POINT AT THE BANKS RAM AIR

Supposedly the dealer had checked the heater and they said it was drawing the right amoutn. They replaced the heater once so I assumed they installed the right gasket.
