so my truck, after 9. 7 years[thanks to fass put in 6 or 7 years ago. ] was perfect, normal south bend clutch replacement ect, then died. tow then dealer 100. 00 to read the code and towed back home. now its sitting in the front yard with a p1688 code. I ordered a new vp44 from midwest fuel inj for 1018. 00. Now i have a few questions on the install. do lines need flushing?do i need to get a overflow valve, pul injectors and clean, ect. any help i appreciate. Man the letdown of this dependability of this thing is just heartbreaking. thanks

Man, I feel your pain big time. I just got mine running after almost two weeks broken down with an ECM failure. I had a verbal battle with the repair shop. They said it was a bad APP's and finally they listened to me and found that the ECM failed. I then closed out the repair ticket and fixed it myself. Sorry I can't help with your questions but hang in there, someone here will help.

sleddog,

Nothing needs to be flushed (normally) and the replacement VP44 from MWFI should already come with a new overflow valve. Just install the new VP44 and enjoy!

You don't need to open timming cover (KDP) with a vp44 swap. A seperate fix.

you need a gear puller.

disconnect both battery grounds.

once installation complete: purge 3 high press lines by cranking, close lines, start motor, after 10 sec run raise rpm to 2K to help purge out the remaining 3 cylinders.

if you get a 216 code - gear is not seated correctly on pump. try again...
