Thank SWithrow for this next contest idea (SWithrow, a t-shirt will be sent to you for this idea; thank you):

It is time for some fun now that the weather is turning cool and you're spending more time indoors (behind your computer screen).

Give us the best reason/excuse you gave your spouse/significant other for why you just had to get that new part/upgrade/bling for your truck. (Note: feel free to even post a reason/excuse you dreamed of using, but never really did. )

Feel free to post a photo of the item and your truck.

Now hanging around Geno's Garage as long as I have, I *KNOW* there have been some very creative justifications for the purchase of stuff for trucks. I've even seen the staff at Geno's have to find an old box from another place like the grocery store to ship an order in with *absolutely no reference to Geno's Garage* anywhere on the box. We sort of thought a divorce might be in that guy's future. We were pretty sure it wasn't some *surprise gift* for his wife (snicker).

Let's hear what you've done to pull the wool over your spouse or significant others eyes!

Winner gets one year renewal to the TDR and $50 gift certificate to Geno's Garage (or a check for $50).

Good luck!

How to purchase from Geno's

Robin - - - Just bring your wife to Geno's with you, and with a long face, drool over at the new mirrors you want for your truck. Works ALMOST every time, just like it did for me last month!

By the way, we are both VERY HAPPY with the new mirrors, the new (clean)hat was nice too!!!!

:D:D

It is True

Denny is not lying. Poor Gail didn't have a fighting chance of getting Denny out of Geno's Garage without those mirrors. He was kind of like a kid at Christmas.

Thanks, Denny!

When I returned home from work recently, my better half asked what the mirror was for.

I ask her - "what mirror"

she says "the one on the porch, in the box"

I reply - "You're so sweet, I thought I'd get your christmas present early"

Or the excuse I gave her for buying a 1991 Chevy K2500 (i know - it's not a dodge):

"I didn't want you to have to shovel snow this year, it's got an 8' plow. Happy anniversary!"

Back in mid '03, I began to point out to my wife, how quiet the new third gens were at campgrounds. A little later that year, I told my wife I was going to be spending some money on a sound deadening project on the 2001. 5 we had. I also explained how the entire interior was going to have to come out for all the sound deadening material. She said, "why don't we just get a new one?". That's how I ended up with the '04. 5. :-laf

Here is a picture from the day my friend and auto broker was picking up the traded in 2001. 5. The 2004. 5 is already in the garage!

The best one for me would have been when I bought my Silverline 304 system from Genos.

I wanted a new system for my truck, so I made out like I was just trying to find a different muffler while my wife was present. (but with no success)

I called and talked to Robin at Geno's, and she referred me to thier direct contact at Silverline (Hal???) I called and talked with him, and he offered to sell me the 304 system for the 409 price... . All of this is happening right in front of my wife..... After getting off the ph. with Hal, spooled up some enthusiasm and told my wife. . " WOW!, He offered to sell it to me for less than half price if I call and order it from Geno's right now!!!"

My wife, being a sale item type shopper... She bit on it, Hook, Line, and Sinker!!!...

Although, I'm STILL not sure how I ended up buying a friggin' $600. 00 vacuum cleaner the next week??? Surely she didn't pull a similar stunt on me... . DOH!!!...

Well my dear husband has kinda given up on trying to understand my never-ending truck upgrades and quest for more HP, but I try to do it in "spurts" thinking he won't notice as much or it won't be as irritating to him! I tend to start hoarding boxes in the basement.

So some weeks ago while he was watching soccer down in our basement "man-cave" (timing and location is everything) I casually mentioned that the transmission was acting kind of strange, like I had no idea why (duh, lots extra HP on a stock 48RE transmission for over a year ), but that I had a couple of parts that might help, and that I'd like to get them installed, because that would definitely help the transmission (me vaguely motioning over at that innocent-looking pile of boxes in the corner).

Of course those "couple of parts" was a full rebuild with lotsa nice goodies!!! :D Well, I always pay for my own stuff of course, and that bit 'o fun sure cost a lot, but he never said a word! Actually I'm still waiting for the #@$%! Aaaah, nothing like subterfuge.

Edit: nice transmission though lol

Her: "what do you need that for. "

Me: "Rip said I 'needed one. '" :-laf

I was at Source Automotive "helping" my brother get gottahaveits, gauges... and Rip said, "here this will fit your truck you needed one, if you don't like it return it. Send me the payment when you can. " Oh, poop! That is how I got a DSS.

Rip Rook is an evil man, wives and girlfriends hate him. :D

Well it took me 20 years but I finally got the best upgrade ever in my life - a new 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 QC 4x4 with a CUMMINS!

First some background - I've worked at Cummins for 20 years now and because of a combination of needs vs wants, have never owned a Dodge/Cummins truck. Imagine spending 20 years working in a candy store and being diabetic! See it every day; touch em, smell it, but you can't have one. We are campers and last year bought our first travel trailer... . a Jayco 23B Hybrid. Been towing it around with my 2WD GMC Sierra 1500 which was "ok", but was not cutting it.

Act 1 - While camping in KY one weekend we went to a local horse track to watch some races (Keeneland), and had to park in an open field. After some rain showers the field turned into a mud hole and (surprise) that old 2WD GMC just got buried. Needed help getting a truck out! The wife remarked that our next truck had to have 4WD... . I never argue with her when shes right.

Act 2 - On a return trip from camping I came up "sick", and had to hand over the wheel to her for the drive home. She hates freeways; construction zones; and towing. Bingo - a trifecta on I-75 between Lexington and Cincy..... In a tough spot she was stuck behind a Motorhome going up a hill and was frustrated because she could not see. So I said to just pass it! That truck could not pass the MH going uphill and she had it screaming. I calmly noted that this would never happen with a diesel engine... .

WHAM - "We're getting a new Dodge with a Cummins!". she says... "you've worked there 20 yrs and its about time we supported the company... " . . "I'm not driving like this ever again!" So after $6k in rebates and another $6k in supplier discounts; we traded in the GMC and now have our own Dodge / Cummins.

I could just wet myself every morning when I see it in the garage!!! Boy did I ever marry the smartest woman on the planet... . I'm truly a lucky man.

Since we purchased our new 2008 Arctic Fox 5th wheel I've been telling my wife that now we need an exhaust brake on the truck or we'll be installing new brakes every year. I finally got her to agree and on 3 Oct 09, we got a new PacBrake installed on my Dodge. I love it. Thanks Jim.

The injection pump broke a couple years ago. Rather than just getting the $1000 standard rebuilt pump I convinced my wife that the $2000 Blue Chip special X would be better due to increased mileage and their warranty.

I just finished cutting down my reg cab,
into a short box. When she asked why,
I told here our driveway is short, so
I wanted a short truck.

Our Retirement Truck

Project: Empty 2400 square foot 3 car garage into a Dodge 2500 Megacab

Start Date: September 2008

Location: North Canton, Ohio

Work Locations: North Canton, Oh, Chattanooga, TN, Bushnell, FL, Foley, AL, Jackson, MS, Murfreesboro, AR, Monroeville, NJ, Demopolis, AL, Sedalia, MO, Livingston, TX, Waco, TX and Roanoke TX

Completion Date: November 20, 2008

Location: Roanoke, Texas

Short Title: How we put 10 Gallons of stuff in a 5 Gallon Bucket

The object was to get all our tools and equipment as well as a 55 gallon auxiliary fuel tank a 2006 Dodge Cummins Diesel 2500 4 X 4 Megacab, and be able to get to most of the tools and fishing equipment with out completely unloading or moving everything else. I was beginning to think it wasn’t possible, but after 14 months it all came together.

Since I retired in the summer of 2008, I no longer have to carry the heavy tools of trade such as pipe wrenches, pressure gauges, rupture disks, and safety and fire protective clothing to handle my job of the past 27 years, BUT, there were automotive tools in a big Snap On tool chest that I was not ready to give up. I told one guy at a RV rally, when asked why I carried so many tools, said it was because a lot of my friends owned Ford 6 l. Diesels. As a Ford Diesel owner he really wasn’t amused, but the day he left, his truck wouldn’t start! (I had nothing to do with it)

In addition I carry a good assortment woodworking tools, including a ½” Drill, a Saber Saw, Circular saw, a Sawzall, air operated staplers. and air compressor, a sander and a grinder and a 2000 w Honda Generator.

I also carry a big box of nuts, bolts, and sheet metal screws, and two boxes of electrical fittings and connectors.

On the fun side, I have a bag with fly fishing equipment, including chest waders and hip boots along with 4 fly rods, as well as a tackle box of spin casting equipment and a couple of rods. We also carry a 10’ X 10’ portable canopy.

A roof carrier finishes out the list, and it provides space to carry a bicycle carrier for the truck, and a waste water tank for use when we don’t have sewer hookups at some state parks.

The Truck, as I mentioned before, is a 2006 Megacab, Diesel, Automatic, 4 X 4, 3. 73 axle. There is a windshield post with 3 gages set up with transmission temp, boost and EGT, and fuel on the auxiliary fuel tank. We have added air bags, a 2” front leveling lift kit, with Bilstine shocks all around, a Jake Brake, Nitto LT285/75R - 17E tires on aluminum wheels, and we tow with a Hensley Straight Arrow Hitch.

We removed the front center seat/console and made a box using the original padded lid. The new console supplies support for a computer desk with a GPS system and a 400 w inverter for computer power, in addition, there is space to carry more stuff.

One of the things I carry there in addition to an air gage, is a non-contact thermometer so that I can check tire and bearing temperature each time I stop for a break. The newest addition was a set of CIBA Mirrors from Geno’s. (Robin and my wife Gale had some fun at my expense with this addition!)

We tow a 28 foot MaxLite Travel trailer with many modifications, that I won’t go into here, but we did change the 14 inch wheels and tires for 15 inch. .

We have been on the road for a year now, and we have met a lot of people that also enjoy this full time RV lifestyle, and have got to visit with a lot of friends as we travel. We have TDR signs on both the truck and the back of the trailer, so if you see us, at least honk and wave. If you see us in an RV park, please stop and say hello!

Kitchen Sink?

Where's the kitchen sink?

Though long and hard about it, we had a nice deep stainless steel sink in Ohio, but as hard as I tried, I couldn't make it fit!!!

However, I do carry a cooler and a bunch of water bottles - - that a squeeze bottle of GoJo and a roll of paper towels - - - Hey, we've got it made!:D

You did a great job organizing all your gear. I wonder what the truck and all it's contents weigh.

Weighed it in Texas before we headed out - - gross 8790# full fuel and 3 people - - real close to the max weight with OEM tires, I put 285/75-17E's on it. Gives me a little more safety factor - - each tire will carry 3980# at 80psig and new wheels are rated for 3800#

Sorry for the delay answering - - We left North Texas Friday AM and arrived in New Jersey Mnday PM, towing the trailer - - Hate heading North this time of year!

And the Winner Is ...

And the winner is . . .

CHAMPY

And the crowd cheered!
