2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Rear Suspension Help!

unfortunately its time for tires. I was thinking of going to a bigger size if i can i have leveling blocks in the front. I also plow in winter so there is added weight so I dont want major rubbing issues . Hopefully i can get a few ideas . thanks :-laf

My 96 has 2" leveling spacers on the front and I am running 305's on 16" wheels. I have a Curtis plow on this truck. I installed a set of Kore springs on my 04 and also running 305's on 16" wheels. Hope this helps.

I have ran 305's in a load range d tire in the past. They seemed kinda "mushy". I am running 3rd gen 17" wheels and 265's now, which are a good compromise. Randy

I run 315-75-16 on 8" wheels, too close to the fender to pput a snow plow on. I bet 305's would work though, my friends 99 had 305', 10 inch Weld rims, with out a level kit, and it looked like he could have put a plow on.

The Procomp all terrain. best tire I have ever run on a truck. 50000 mile tread wear, and I'm gonna make that no problem. best snow traction i've ever had, and best wet traction i've ever had. fairly quite on the highway. They're only a load range D, and I worry about them with the fifth wheel, so I am going to put goodyear duratracs on next, they have an extra 450 pounds a piece.

When I bought the tires, I wasn't pulling the fifthwheel, the factory tires were rated at 3300 lbs, and my new ones are rated at 3195 lbs. 105 lbs didn't make much a difference. Now the new Goodyears are 3860, actually, one of the highest ratings around that I can find anyway.

I have a very old Fifth wheel, and it doesn't weigh very much, registered weight is only 6800lbs. But since there is a stronger tire out there, I figured I should get it.

I guess I'll throw in a unconventional opinion. I personally favor thinner tires profiles, especially for snow conditions. This was true even when I didn't have dually trucks. My favorites are the old 7. 50 x 16s, but now I run the 235x85 16s. In my opinion the larger tires also tend toward suspension and steering problems prematurely.

so many decisions. prob should just stick to my 285s no probs w them

maybe just go to a diff tire n tread

I have been shopping tires for a week now and still have yet to make a decision. I have the stock size now (265/75/16) and really don't have any reason to change them. I would like a taller tire for appearance but don't want to go wider. The best solution I have found is the 255/85/16 size. Same width as 265 (close enough) but taller. There are not a lot in this size but there are a few that are possibilities depending on what type of tire you are looking for. This site lists about all that available in that size.

If you go with a 285 you get the taller tire but it comes with the additional width as well. Here is a great tire comparison site where you can compare different sizes, along with the speedometer correction and other good info.

With 3. 55 gearing I don't need the reduction a taller tire would give but the look of a taller tire is something that I think benefits the truck in appearance. I agree that a wider tire causes more suspension wear, more rolling resistance, and less mileage. Other than floatation in mud or sand I don't see any advantage to a wide tire other than an appearance preference.

Actually, my 98 dually came with this size on it. they are made by Interco TrXus M/Tsand have performed well. However, there is a 1/4" spacer for the dually rear. When they wear out next summer I'm going to 235 85 16s because I don't like the minimal rear gap between the tires with the spacer. However, I will admit I like the rpm/speed ratio with the taller tires and they do look "cool".
