I am about to have my 48RE rebuilt. Therefore I need to know at what horsepower does the stock intermieddate shaft start to fail?

The factory Intermediate is not necessary to billet UNLESS extreme Race,Pull,HP. billet Intermediate needs additional support (hardware) to be beneficial. IMO.

Speaking with Dave Goerend, he recomends the stock intermediate be used. Something to do with the warping of the longer shaft when doing the heat treatment, then the bending back to specs weakens the metal.

???
I don't think so. If that was the case why would Dave recommend it for extreme HP?

West what to you consider extreme hp?

550+ Hp. . De-Fueling during shifting and lockup will save any transmission. BANKS offered Ver 1. 5 which had all the fueling and shifting allowed %, then they removed it and No longer offer it. I have it locked on My desk top and some flash drives and couple of PDAs. I suppose they were inundate with calls on how to program so they removed it. #@$%!#@$%!:-{}

yea i plan on running the smarty wide open and maybe a turbo for now but plan on goin a little more later... I dont think the smarty defuels during shifts are does it?

No it does NOT...

By default, Smarty defuels on shift points. Its built into the ECU fueling algorithm and has to be turned off.

The Smarty race version(s) have an option for shift defuel off. Unless you are willing to constantly replace the transmissions don't even consider running this option. Even a full billet trans won't hold it under certain conditions.

Not putting words in any ones mouth, just merely passing on what was told to me first hand. This discussion was in back in sept I beleive. Maybe things have changed in the last couple months?
