no charging

charging intermitntly and the check engine light is on. bad news?

Replace your external voltage regulator which is the rectangular rusy looking box mounted high on the firewall behind the engine... passenger side.

Very notorious failure item on these rigs.

Then see what ya got.

What about 92 are they in the alternator?

Oh well i dont know i thought that all from aftercooler on were in the computer. I only say that from hearsay iv never checked it out

Check your Crank sensor and wire harness. Sensor is on front of engine above the harmonic balancer, harness runs straight up the front of the motor across the top of the engine near the valve covers.



If the computer doesn't see engine rotation it won't turn on the alternator.

What about 92 are they in the alternator?

The PCM controls the charging on 92 trucks. Ditto on the CPS and harness, Check the plug below the water neck also and make sure the pins make contact with the female part in the other plug.
