Went to a new dealer this morning to try to solve an old issue of tires being out of balance and vibrating a different speeds. While there, he said that I needed a rapid response number 09-086, which has something to do with the filter minder. I asked him what else it does, but he did not know what else this would involve. I did a search on the forums for this information, but did not come up with any clear information. I was wondering is anyone has heard of this or knows what else they will be trying to hide it this and will it be good or bad. Truck was born on March 05, 2009, and I plan to add a edge, bullydog, or a quadzilla scout in the future. If anyone has specific information, I would sure appreciate it. Thanks Gary:confused:

RRT 90-086 is a update flash/calibration for the ECM, It does the following:

Pick up trucks equipped with a Cummins 6. 7L diesel have a number of software

improvements available. This latest calibration will include:

• EGR valve cleaning cycle.

• DPF “Snuffer” feature to expand DPF temperature controls during deSoot.

• DPF “Super deSoot” feature to enhance the deSoot process.

• Improve air filter minder detection.

• Added turbo cleaning scan tool service procedure available through a diagnostic

scan tool. This procedure is available with version 10. 02 due out in late

November.

• Many other diagnostic improvements

I would highly recommend getting it done.

According to the build date on your truck, you have the updated bootloader in your ECM so I would not advise adding any programer to the truck at this time or you will disable the ECM and the truck wont run.

Will this install software version BB first if we do not have that update already?

Is this seperate from the new BB flash? I had that done acouple weeks back. The dealer said that's the current flash for the '09. .

If you have the "BB" calibration, you have the latest and greatest calibration. You would not need to have this RRT performed.

Thanks. With what you stated if I do not have BB and I get the RRT what calibration will my sticker under the hood say?

If you are asking what calibration part # will be on the update sticker, it can be one of the two following numbers :

72351430BB or 72351435BB

This is the numbers for your truck, a 2500 will have different Numbers.

You show 90-086. The work order from my dealer shows 09-086. Is this the same thing and you or them made a typo?

Hey the good news is when you get this done (like i did ) mileage droped! Guess that is better than walking home. Or having it at the shop all the time.

Thanks to all who replied! I had a typo in the first post, and it was 09-086. I found out that everything wrapped up in that number was the filter minder and the flash update which was BB. So now i guess that I have the latest and greatest software and will wait to see what happens with the mileage. Just from the first tank, it seems like it dropped 2 mpg, but on the not sure if the temperature had anything to with it. The update sure made it feel more powerful and a quicker throttle response. The best thing I can say was I found a great dealer in Bristow, Ok and they finally fixed my tire problem that the first dealer did not care about. Seems like they were all out of balance and is now smooth as glass.

watch that Bristow bunch, I had them run my valves on a 5. 9, and that started the downfall. They didn't get a gasket on right and thats why have a 6. 7 now... .

Thanks for the info. They seem really nice there and it's close to where I'm moving to. I will watch and see if they make any mistakes. What happened to your 5. 9 after they didn't get the gasket on correctly? I will post any negative issues I see, but they have to be way better than Chris nikel's. Thanks Gary

I got tired of the change grabbers at Chris Nickles, when they took my wifes wedding ring out of the ash tray. Bristow pinched the valve cover, oil ran down the back of the motor and burned off before I could tell it was leaking. Also truck sure ran worse it seemed. This engine hasn't had any adjustments and seems to be great. Hit 300k today. .

I've noticed before when a ECM is updated, people claim lower MPG. Does the ECM on the Cummins "learn"?

How important are these flashes?

I have an 09 born on dec 18 of 08, so far I have not seen a CEL and I don't drive it that hard. I do tow about once a month but not heavy as compared to others. I like the way the truck runs now and was wondering if its worth going in to the dealer for this flash. I generally don't go to the dealer for anything but recalls.

Dealer had my truck for a month, up until late NOV, and I just got a call from "RAM" that I need this Flash now also. They just updated it in NOV it is written under my hood, oh well hope it helps my mileage, it keeps droping, went from mid 19s to low 15s. Driveing the same rout every day.

Went in for the steering recall. They threw in a reflash of the ECM & TCM for free. :)
