I have been reading some guys have been able to find replacement mirrors for the 3rd gen. I have a set of towing electric heated mirror that the spotter mirror is cracked on the drivers side. Do you replace the two piece mirror together or is the spotter mirror seperate.

I have seen a few online but i do not know what the call the left side and right side. I assume its while sitting in the truck?

If you have done this i would appricate your advice.

Thanks

Kool Vue Driver side Mirror Textured, Plastic, Heated, direct OE replacement I replaced the passenger side on mine and got it here. I looks and seems to operate just as well as the original. When you order they will be listed as passenger side or drivers side. I priced just the glass and it was over fifty dollars and the mirror and bubble are made together and pretty fragile, I was afraid of breaking the glass and endind up paying more than a new unit. The unit is over three hundred art dealer. The whole mirror is pretty simple to change. If you decide to change just the glass, let me know and I will give you my procedure for removing glass. bg

I am hoping to just replace the glass but i have not seen the procedure so maybe it is better to just replace the unit. Could you explain the procedure to replace just the glass.

Thanks for the advice.

Start with the mirror in the non towing position, (folded down). Tilt the mirror all the way in toward cab, look behind the glass and you can see a round placstic disc that the mirror is mounted to. In the center of the edge of the disc you can see a small plastic crescent shaped potrusion about 1/2 " wide and maybe 1/8" high, this is what is holding the mirror on the disc. You can flex the mirror slightly and release the clip or just push it toward the truck and shear the clip off. If you raise the mirror to clear the clip it may crack. If you shear it off it probably doesn't matter as you aren't going to use it anymore anyway. To release the mirror either way I just bumped it with the heel of my hand toward the cab, it will move slightly then bottom out on the inside of the mirror housing. Tilt the mirror all the way in opposit direction and then grasp the mirror and pull it toward the cab and it will come out. As the book always says, installation is reverse of removal. However, on the back of the mirror assy. there are three metal spring fingers(to control vibration when in use I believe), so when you place the mirror in the position to snap back in place be sure the one on the inner side toward truck is inside it's guide. Place mirror in position, press in on center of mirror and slide it away from cab, it should snap into position. bg
