What is the best Internet Security Software for a high speed PC? Currently I have Norton 2009, which has let me down with a virus. The laptop is fine. Norton has always worked for me in the past.

AVG and Avast; both have versions free for home use. (I'd looked at Comodo a time or two a couple years back, but didn't like their products or tactics and have stayed away since. )

Also, Malware Bytes Anti-Malware has been very good for a year or more at detecting and removing malware.

General, undirected advice:

The best anti-malware filter is the one sitting in front of the keyboard. If you treat the computer as a tool and not an infinite-entertainment device, use caution when visiting web sites, and use a hardware firewall of some kind on which you have turned off UPnP, you'll very rarely ever have problems with malware. Basically, learn to tune out the FLASH and ads and never click them, at least not until you can readily tell the difference between internet (manure), internet shinola, and real, useful information.

If anything can be worse than Norton, McAfee is it. Both are resource hogs.

I use the Microsoft security essentials. Back that up with Malwarebytes and Spyzooka.

No viruses so far and the computer runs a heck of a lot faster.

I have used Kasperaky for about a year now. It has done its job. At work we use symantec which is good.
I can't remember the name of the virus protection that comes on as a pop up virus wanting us to buy thier plan. Twice I have ran a full sweep and no viruses were dectected. I just X it out.
Ditto on what fest3er says. I for one do not click on every thing that I find in a search and I still get a hold of bugs.
10 years from now I predict we will look back and laugh at how freely the internet rip off and villians were allowed to roam. I'm not for more gov intervention, but the trash on the net is just that.

You can get Kasperaky at Costco online for $19. 99 until 28 Feb 10. I may get it anyway, however in the mean time I have downloaded a free anti virus security from my internet provider, Quest. I had it do a full systems check and it found and fixed 76 risks. The Quest internet security is Norton.
