I think that Dave Fritz had one on his '94 Ram but concluded the same thing that I would... . Why? (see Fritz's Dodge Ram Tech). I understand the theory, but these engines are built to darn good and there is no reason to bring up the oil pressure on them before starting. Focus on keeping the Dodge from dropping off the Cummins. :-laf

Amsoil Inc. made them for sometime, then they dropped them, probably due to lack of sales. I have one on my 03'Dodge/Cummins, and used it mainly to show owners of equipment that was not run on a continueos basis, such as Motorhomes, and Boats.

These Pre-Oilers do a great job in getting the oil to the components prior to starting, but if one is using their equipment on a continual basis, like every day, they are not very cost effective.

I did an article in the TDR Mag. on the Amsoil unit as applied to my Dodge a few issues back.

I have taken old engines apart that had been sitting for over a year. They all had oil in the bearing journals. Sounds like a pre-oiler would be a good waste of time and money.

I don't think it is the fact of NOT having some oil on the bearing journals, rather it is the fact that the pressurized oil fills in the "minute" clearance between the journal and the bearings.

I have seen pictures of bearings/journals when not operating that showed the bearing actually sitting on the journal. The photos I saw were "microscopic".

This is something I've been thinking about a lot. My 06 may sit for weeks at a time. I looked at the amsoiler and my biggest quesiton is related to the small oil volume it uses to pressurize the system. I wondered if its enough to do the desired job.

It seems to me the Amsoil pre-oiler was designed for engine up to 7 liter. I know on my truck it would show oil pressure on the gage when in operation.
