Happy Sunday, all. Started up the CTD this morn and the engine light didn't go off. I've got codes P243 and P514. Could it be as simple as new batteries?

It's a 2005 NV5600 with the original batteries and about 98K on the clock. No mods - bone stock.

Thanks.

P0243 Open or shorted condition detected in the

turbocharger Wastegate solenoid Ctrl

P0514 Battery Temp Sens Perf. This seems to be common in cold weather!

Yeah, I've come up with this:

P0514 Battery Temperature Sensor Performance / Rationality
P0243 Generic Turbo/Super Charger Wastegate Solenoid A

Thing is, it has finally been above freezing here. Any ideas on where to start "fixing"?

I wouldn't be concerned about the P0514, if you have a code reader I would just erase it.

I would look into P0243 more, maybe p-bar is on to something?

Well, I don't think any fuses are blown. However, I took it to AutoZone to have them test the batteries. Batteries look fine, but were only 70% charged and alternator was only putting out 30 amps. Guess it's time for a new nator.

Think this could cause those codes?

Also, interesting to note that my factory battery was putting out 1040 cold cranking amps according to their reader. It's at least 4 1/2 years old.

Thanks for the replies.

The P0243 is telling you there is a problem with waste gate control solenoid. Either replace it or eliminate it. Usually once they go bad there is no fix but new.

Just spent 20 minutes on the phone with the dealer. They can't seem to find anything called Waste Gate Solenoid. They wondered if it only comes with the turbo.

Is this truth or incompetence? Any insight would be much appreciated. I'd love to get that MIL lamp off.

Thanks.

Maybe they can't read too well? Are your sure the parts department wasn't outsourced? :-laf

Valve, Wastegate Control

So I ordered the part in that link (thanks by the way) and installed it tonight. Valve, Wastegate (wastegate control). I drove it a couple miles, let it sit several minutes, and then drove it another few miles. Restarted it four times all together - still getting the code. Do I need to reset the computer?

If you didn't clear the code with a scanner or something similar it will hang around and turn the MIL on for something like 12 to 20 starts. It should eventually go out if that was the problem or get it cleared and see if it comes back.
