does anyone know what the truck month incentives will be on the 2500 / 3500 rigs? i bought a new mega cab and locked in the 1000. if the incentives are better in march i get them too. nice to be price protected. i think i am entitled to a 900 upfitters allowance because my business is buying the rig. any thoughts. im buying from dave smith and so far they have been straight business.

Incentive may be what helped to get them into trouble, but that isn't the only reason. Besides, incentives have come to be expected, and Furd is still out there with a pretty healthy one... I thought I saw an adveritisement that mentioned $6000, but that sounds pretty high. If that's correct though, Dodge will have to do better than just offering $1000. I wouldn't go out to my local Furd dealer, but I wouldn't be hustling down to the Dodge Boys either. When I bought my '08, Dodge was offering $4500.

Incentives are nothing more than a smoke and mirrors game to make people think threy're getting something for nothing. It would make more sense to just lower the sticker price. It sounds like furniture stores, with sales every day and "no interest" 'till 2013, etc. Visit your local banker and see how much "free interest" you can get from him or her.

I disagree. Incentives are not just smoke and mirrors.

The incentive amount varies at the whim of some corporate whiz somewhere, but it is real, absolute savings for the buyer.

Now, I agree that dealers play games with the selling price, but the old saying of "buyer Beware" really applies when buying a car.

If you are paying whatever the sticker is for whatever you are buying, then you deserve to pay whatever you pay, but it pays to be buyer smart and do some research on the computer to find out what the dealer cost is for the vehicle.

Last time I bought one, I paid dealer invoice minus the factory and dealer incentives. I got $4500 worth of incentives, and what I felt at the time to be a pretty good deal for my truck, but the dealer didn't lose any money on me. Even working with the dealer cost, he still made about 3%, which in my case was about $1750. I'm waiting for things to get lean for the dealers, and for their backlog to grow to a level that the incentives increase substantially from where they are now, and then I'll go shopping again. In the meantime, I'll enjoy my '08.

Jwskj nailed it! If your dealer won't give you the print out on dealer cost i would find a new dealer. Both of mine have been doing that since I bought my 96 2500 new. I just sit down and order a new one and get what i want. They printout the dealer cost on every item along with retail cost also. I get dealer cost with all rebates and everything thrown in also. The real dealing is how much under invoice can I get them to go. Also how many t shirts and hats they throw in. Remember dealers also get holdbacks too. Originally holdbacks were to cover interest on dealers floorplans, interest on loans to stock new cars. Holdbacks vary. Dealers do not pay interest on ordered cars because they don't pay for it untill it shows up, and then you pay for it. I love truck shopping.

My dealer, Melloy Dodge, did the same when I ordered my 05. They gave me a complete invoice pricing, which I compared to the invoice pricing I printed out from Kelley Blue Book. In some instances the dealer prices were less than KBB. I purchased the truck at dealer's invoice plus they through in free oil changes for 7 years at 2 per year and two ball caps.

Exactly what I was talking about! If you don't do your homework, you don't deserve to get a deal that you can be content with. Like zb39 said it... "I love truck shopping".

Give it a few months... . with Ford and Chevy coming out with almost 100lbs more torque and more HP, Dodge will have to do something to be competitive. I bet June/July we will see something bigger.
