I have read many of the posts on here and am now confused. I have an '01 ex-cab and the front door speakers don't work. I don't think I have an infinity system because there are no tweeters in the support pillars. How can I check to see if I need a new radio or just some different speakers?

I ckecked for continuity between the radio and the speakers. I have continuity but could i also have a short?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, JTotts

For testing any old speaker will do -- even a home stereo speaker (and who doesn't have spare speakers?). Start by checking the fader (front to back) just to be sure the thing isn't turned all the way to the back.

speakers don't generally go silent they tend to buzz or crackle when they go bad and rarely go bad in pairs. Before you junk the radio I would try some compressed air in a can or some contact cleaner on the fader slide mechanism. Over time the strips of brass that the slide rides on can get dirt or corrosion on them preventing you from fading back to the front speakers

check for a broken wire in the tube that goes through the door jamb to the door. My back speakers went silent and thats what it was (only in the back door).

X2... . never had this problem (yet?), but I remember reading several posts where broken wires at door hinges caused either front or rear speakers to stop working. The break is usually inside the corrugated ruber sleeve that runs between post and door.

Would be odd to fail the hinge harness on BOTH sides at the same time. I am facing a similar situation pretty sure the rear amp output on my Jensen went south. Here's my plan based on my childhood training: open the dash and pull the head unit - identify the individual speaker circuits. Take a 9v squarepack battery and jumper it repeatedly across each speaker. If they make noise your harnesses are intact—go after an electronic failure in the head unit (good luck!!!)

Infinity

I have the infinity speakers in my truck, and both front door speakers went bad. Started with just the drivers side then to the passenger side. I replaced both speakers with known good speakers. Solved the passenger side problem but the drivers side problem continued. I finally replaced the complete drivers side wire harness in the door, and that still didnt work. I may try the compressed air in the fade knob and see if that doenst help. May even try swapping out a radio from another truck if I can find something.
