Im going to change the coolant, hoses, thermostat,on my 04. 5 the radiator, heater hose are no big deal. There are some hoses that are under the exhaust manifold on a pipe are these also coolant hose are they some kind of special hose to take the heat from the exhaust. Or are they just heater hose and what size are they. Is there any other coolant hose to replace that I havent seen. Thanks for any help BIG

the one around the turbo takes a hi heat hose I think its a new silicone one do a search I just saw someone post part number for the hose and clamps... . not sure about the rest Im doing the same thing this weekend on my 04

well i am at 95k just because lol no leaks yet but why wait btw Big that was the wrong link I pm;d you still a good read though...

Change now not later

Im changing mine because of age of the coolant and I travel alot and dont want to have a hose leak in the middle or the end of no where. Just a little prevent maint. not reactive maint. guess the Air Force did teach me something. As for the hose small price to pay do it when changing the coolant all done at one time

The AF taught me to use a big hammer(7level fix).

One thing you can do to promote hose and radiator life, and reduce the chance of a catastrophic failure is to use a lower pressure radiator cap. I've had a 7# cap on my '03 since new and never had any issues with it. The 15# cap is only needed in the extreme situation (240+ degrees) that most of us will never experience.

Can you explain in a simple explanation why this would be better? I would like to know what the difference is. Thx

Wow finally found the Zerex GO-5 antifreeze,,,,took a whole day and a lil hole in the wall auto parts had it..... so I got 6 gallons... . Think Ill change the Rad cap too, plus I went to Cummins for the Stat some Fleetguard Restore... ... .

It will lower the boiling point about 24 degrees. If you really need that 8psi to keep from boiling, you have a serious overheating problem to begin with. Perhaps there are a few users who really need the 15# cap, but I'd hazard a guess that 95% of us don't.

hmm well I guess my hoses and radiator?? with 95k is doing pretty good for having a STOCK 15lb cap... ..... go figure... ... . and my 96 with 250k never blew a hose... . its your decision.....

allways broke

The Air Force taught me, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

must not have worked on fighter aircraft the jet jocks were allways FUBAR or bending up something. I guess if I had a SAM or AAA shot at me I would have bent a plane or two also.

thermostat

Is there a reason why I couldnt go with a 180 thermostat truck has 190 in it now dont know if a sensor or something needs the 190 for the ECU or other odd ball reason. these trucks have some strange needs.

I know a few guys that has changed their stat to a 180* I read somewhere the full potential's of fueling/timing is at 170*-175* I'm not 100% sure if that is true... . But I do know my Juice W/ Attitude doesn't until 175*..... as a safety feature not to hot rod a cool engine??
