Hello all, I am installing new brakes on my '93 D350, and somebody has obviously attempted it once before me. Upon dissassembly I found both sides had been assembled differently, and with different parts. I need to find a picture or exploded view of the brakes so I know the "correct" way to re-assemble them. Thanks for any help.

If you had posted this four days ago, I could have helped. I just did a complete replacement. In a couple of days I will be taking it apart again because I didn't have the new drums turned after I mounted them to the hub.

Don't make the same mistake I did. The new drums aren't necessarily centered on the old hubs. They have to be turned as a set.

I will take a few pictures while I'm in there for you/others.

They are a lot more simple than they look. The only problem is that the springs are massive!

For now, here is something I created in Paint.

This is the Driver's side. I left out the arm for the parking brake. The cable for that is relatively simple.

Make sure the cable going down the guide on the rear shoe is under the spring holding the brake shoe in.

NAPA has two different hardware kits. It takes both to replace all of the springs inside. My new shoes did not come with the guide that the cable follows. The normal kit had all of the springs and hooks. The 'other' kit had all of the parts for the ratchet mechanism for the tensioner.

Thanks for the diagram, it makes a lot more sense than what I found. Is the green cable really necessary? I had one side with it and one without. The foot for the adjuster wheel seems to sit more appropriate on mine if I do not attach the cable.

Yes, it is neccessary and needed. It not only auto adjusts the shoes for wear but locks the starwheel so it can't move easily. If you don't put it on they have a tendency to walk out and chew the brakes up REAL fast.

Well here's the pics

This is only the drivers side. The passenger side is almost the same except for the adjuster and parking brake cable. The bolt portion of the adjuster goes on the front side. The adjuster ratchet pivot is on the rear shoe.

The cable guide is on the rear shoe.

Hope this helps.

This may be handy. Just going to replace the wheel cylinders on my 79 "B450" flatbed dually on van chassis. I HATE having to remove the hubs to get to the brakes.
