Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Truck would not shut off bucks, surges,HELP

Took truck out got half a mile down road and the throttle jumped a little, then reved a lot, then went into limp mode, Temp guage was buried, stopped and the truck would not shut off with key, returned to shop in limp mode, then truck kept reving high and would not shut off, dumped clutch and killed it, Took smarty and checked codes there was nine codes most of them saying high voltage. . Except for Ecm Failure was one and DTC detected in Jtec module was another. . Cleared codes started back up it idled fine then the throttle would jump a little on its own. . Checked codes again and it was I think 1689 and then the same DTC detected in Jtec module. . Is my ECM junk or what. . Any help would be great... . Thanks

P1689 is a communications failure.



The very first thing to do is remove, clean, inspect, and reattach the connectors at the ECM and VP44.



If that doesn't solve the problem, there are detailed trouble shooting procedures in the Dodge Diagnostic Repair Manual to pinpoint exactly where the problem is.

Ok, I unhooked the the battaries for about a 1/2 hour and started the truck it idled and then started to rev real high again I turned the key off and it stayed running for about 30 seconds and the shut off. . Hooked the smarty back up and it cam up with nine codes 0238,0563,0606,0343,0118,0113,0123,1286. . Cleared them and without restarting the truck there was two codes already back in 1693 and 1475. .

P01475 Aux 5 Volt Supply Voltage High Sensor supply voltage for ECM sensors is too high.

There could be an issue with your PCM generating the necessary 5v signal causing the processor in the ECM to go nuts.
I would start by verifying the inputs to the ECM with a multimeter and verifying the voltages on the individual wires.

I am having the exact same problem with my 02 and found this in a search of the forum and just wondered if anyone has found the solution to this. I'm going to get an ECM to try tomorrow which I'm pretty positive will fix it. I had nearly the same exact codes and my engine wouldn't shut off once too and has dead pedal on and off. This is definitely the strangest problem I've seen one of these trucks have, with the temp guage fluctuating wildly, engine shutting off sometimes and sometimes not, and the 12 codes coming and going. I was told this is becoming more common in the 01-02 years as they are aging. I just wonder if something else could short out and cause the ECM to fail or not. Maybe even an aftermarket programmer being the source, but I thought that was what we have fuses for was to protect against such things. I'll post tomorrow if the ECM fixes the problem or not.

Well it was definitely the ECM. Everything straightened right up when I installed the used one I found. However my used computer has a flaw of it's own, the cruise light stays on and my cruise control obviously does not work. So it's time to hunt for another one I suppose, of course the one my buddy had has a problem lol. Anyone know of a good place to find me a computer? I found one place so far online that is sellin em for $600 rebuilt, but I wish I could find a junkyard model a little cheaper and save some cash.

It sounds like the ECM you installed isn't the exact proper part number for your particular application... this is what typically causes the cruise control to be inoperative.



If you're considering buying a rebuilt ECM from Auto Computer Exchange in Florida, DO NOT order from them directly. Instead, you may want to buy through one of their eBay listings, because for some strange reason they have a very mixed track record of poor quality and service for their sales outside of eBay. They even have an "F" rating with the BBB. But with their eBay sales, they have a very good seller rating and a high level of customer satisfaction. Perhaps this seemingly two-sided behavior stems from a fear of loosing their good eBay rating and seller account.



I've purchased both an ECM and PCM from them through eBay and they both worked great.
